UPDATE - after talking to a few neighbors around the block, seems to be some racist pattern; when black people order, their bagel is always messed up. Without a doubt. Food contamination is crazy evil.... Really hope this isn’t the case...
OG: Doesn’t matter how nice the barista is if they can’t toast a bagel correctly... girl this is New York!! I love the flavors and ideas and another vegan option in the neighborhood but for the love of God idk why in 4 years they still can’t toast a bagel?!? Without fail is burnt every time, or stale as damn rock!! I’m not exaggerating, how is your main sandwich a bagel (only have everything bagels). The bagel quality issue is literally a joke amongst my fellow plant based neighbors, “I really want some fig and prosciutto from Familiars, but don’t feel like breaking my teeth”. Please get a bread box, a new toaster, a new person with home training who can toast bread, literally...
Read moreI work a few blocks away from this cafe and I've been here more than a handful of times. Most of the time when I come into the cafe there is someone different behind the counter. I understand there is a menu but the guy with the beard was extremely rude. I believed I asked him two questions. It was a yes or no question. The first question was do you guys have originial cream cheese and he says no this is a vegan shop. then I asked what kind of bagels do you have? he says there is a menu right in front of you. I usually get a matcha tea and that day that is what I asked for and honestly I will never come back and I will proudly walk past your cafe to go to the other vegan cafe up the block because it is better, no one isn't rude, and there is a bigger menu with happier employees that are...

The reason why I give this place 2 stars is because the barista was rude (looked annoyed that my order was distracting him from whatever he was doing on the phone). He was dismissive and lacked the great vibes from other baristas in similar places in Brooklyn.
Then, I ordered a poppyseed almond cake (the only pastries available), and I can rank them as some of the worst coffee shop pastries I've ever had in NY. Dry and I'm fairly certain they were at least one or two days old. Much better vegan and non-vegan places nearby. I'm not vegan, but I'm also not anti-vegan, so many of my favorite...
