I was really looking forward to trying this place as I’d heard really good things not just about the amazing burrito, but the people :) I went for a late lunch on a Monday, like maybe 2pm, and there was no one in the food hall and no line, which is why I chose to go on a weekday at an off peak time. However, I wonder if the burrito might have been better during a lunch rush when the food was more fresh? The meat was sitting on the flat top grill and looked like it had been there for a while. I’m also not sure how fresh the pancake was and since there were no visible scallions in the pancake..I guess it was just a pancake. As other reviewers wrote, it was super greasy, but I don’t mind grease/oily food as long as it’s fresh and delicious…which this was not sadly. Kind of disappointing. If you’re going to go, I’d recommend a time when it’s a little bit busy. The people were very nice, but like also seemed bored. I’d be bored too bc there’s nothing to do. I’m not even sure how many people work there bc when I got to the counter there was just one dude taking orders. Then I walked around and came back and asked if my food was ready, he said no, then I saw another dude walk behind the counter so I guess that was the dude who actually cooks the food? Unclear. But ya, wanted to like it, didn’t, recommend going at a time when you can make sure you get something freshly made. Also perhaps it’s just not as good as it once was on the fire escape? That happens. Oh well. Sad, but...
Read moreHave you ever ordered something online that you were so excited to have, only to receive it and realize it was false advertising because what you saw online was clearly not what they were selling? I hate those experiences. Forsyth Fire Escape is a literal example of the scenario I just described. It looks good online but those influencers are lying to you! A friend and I both got the viral chicken scallion burrito with chili crisp sauce, I asked for my guacamole on the side. At $23 for 1 burrito and a tiny container of sauce, besides being shockingly small, it was unbearably salty, and mind you I'm a salt fanatic. Actually it was inedible! The guac was flavorless, and the chili crisp sauce was coagulated from being refrigerated, way too oily, and had no crisp texture about it. To make it worse, there was nobody there except for an influencer that was taking forever filming while my friend and I waited. The burritos took way longer to make than was reasonable. However they were not worth the effort of walking to the counter or standing in line in the first place. My friend and I watched the influencer sit and pretend he loved his food while his girlfriend recorded him and then she also pretended to eat the food BUT neither of them finished what they ordered. I'm sure the salt level shot their taste buds to hell. If anyone tells you this food is good, they are either paid for it or they are somebody who's not accustomed to well prepared food. Eat at...
Read moreGetting to Olly Olly Market is quite a chore (if you are lucky you can get the M23 Select Bus Service, the M12 or a quick walk from Hudson Yards), but I think there is a interesting mix of vendors plus great events that gets to me to return. Forsyth Fire Escape is one such stall. Because it is a stall and not a full blown restaurant/kitchen, I knew to level set my expectations. Things will come out slower because you have to a small number of people to work safely and efficiently in such a small space. I think Forsyth is worth a try because it does a good job in trying to blend delicacies together. The Dominican, Chinese and Thai influences are present in every bite but they are not too overwhelming. A fresh burrito is crispy and the cheese melds with the pork (Pernil) and the lemon grass chili crisp oil. Though I have to say that the bowl is becoming more of my favorite. It comes with a side of scallion pancakes so you don’t feel like you’re missing out. My favorite part is the service. When my order had to be changed because an ingredient was missing, they made sure to tell me of my options and gave me an empanada for the trouble. I got to try the chicken for the first time and I gained an appreciation for the hardworking team. I would...
