Restaurant: Frankie and Johnnie's 320 W 46th St. New York, NY 10036
Main Question: Is the food worth the price? Answer: Yes, but be prepared to spend $120 a person without alcohol.
Wait Time: No wait for us. We were seated immediately.
Food: Amazing. That's the best I can put it. The steamed vegetables were delightful. The inside of the baked potato was cooked perfectly. The outside of it was crispy and the perfect temperature. The calamari was some of the best calamari I've ever had. It is definitely in the top three from trying calamari all around the world. The steak was delicious however it did come out a little burnt. The lamb chops while also had burn on them were tender and moist and absolutely wonderful. The mashed potatoes or fantastic and the bread was just wow. I personally didn't care for the lemon sorbet and while it was beautiful looking, the fact that it came in a lemon allowed you to get the rhyme taste inside the sorbet which, to me, ruined the taste. That is not enough to lower the stars.
Atmosphere: I enjoyed the atmosphere. I love the pictures on the wall and how they had everything arranged. I love the tables and the glasses and the silverware that were used. I enjoyed the dinner.
Cleanliness: From the kitchen to the bathroom to the floors to the table and chairs and utensils and plates were spotless. I looked at everything, in detail.
Service: The service was impeccable. They were on top of everything. There were two servers for us and they handled everything perfectly. They came over and checked on us and made sure that everything was going well. They listened to any criticisms. They were absolutely wonderful and amazing. This is the epitome of what other restaurants should strive for when they have servers serving their guests.
Price: It was $380.09 for three of us to eat there and we don't drink alcohol.
Recommended: If you don't mind putting out some money to eat, this is a definite place to try. We really loved this Frankie and Johnnie's. We have not been to...
Read moreLet's face it, days like Valentine's Day can be an absolute horror show for the kitchen. For F & J's, it was exactly that. After a positive first experience during a normal day's traffic before seeing a show, I decided to take my date here. That experience could not be replicated.
I'll start with the pros: Service was attentive and very friendly. Both of our sides (truffle fries & au gratin potatoes), plus our appetizer(F & J Shrimp Scampi), were incredibly tasty and well seasoned. Atmosphere was warmly lit and cozy seating. Unfortunately, those are all I can come up with.
The cons: I scheduled a reservation for 8:30pm, but we had to wait an extra 20 minutes for our table to be ready since they were not keeping track of how many tables needed to be reserved. My date and I both ordered steaks ( a NY Strip and a ribeye). After forgetting our napkins and bread, we received our food. Both steaks were cooked completely wrong. I asked for mine to be cooked medium, I received a rare steak. My date asked for hers to be more on the well side, and she received a rare steak as well. We promptly sent our orders back, only to receive an even worse order. Both steaks were absolutely charred as charred can be, and they were both cooked to a crisp. My steak's crust was completely burnt, tasting like burnt toast. My date's steak was the same exact way. To add insult to injury, the couple next to us ALSO received both of their orders under cooked. At this point, we were full from bread and sides and could only eat so much of our orders, so we paid, and left, feeling cheated out of a romantic night's dinner.
To those of you considering coming here, please make sure you come on a day that the restaurant is not too busy, as they can't handle a full restaurant's workload, which does not help justify the prices they charge for their food. To be brutally honest, I don't see myself ever coming back here, unless someone...
Read moreWent 1/15/17 with group of 50 people with reservations. When we arrived they were ready for us, no wait and staff were very nice. They took our drink orders right away and we ordered from a pre-made menu since it was a holiday party for our group. That was when it all fell apart. 4 out of the 6 tables got their appetizers, finished them and had table cleared before the last 2 even received their appetizers. When the last 2 table got theirs, they brought out the food for the other 4 tables, mind you with no sides (we ordered family style sides). I have to say that at least half of the group returned their steak (This is a steak house) because they were improperly cooked to order. The 4 tables were almost completed with their meal when they placed the sides out for them, unacceptable for $$$. When the last 2 tables got their food which included my table the same thing happened, except one very GROSS thing occurred. I returned my well done steak for the medium rare I ordered originally. I had cut it down the middle to check the temperature. They took the steak to the back, flipped it over on a plate and returned it to another guest at my table. We know this because we joked it would happen and when he filed over the medium steak, it had the cut right down the whole middle that I cut when it was in front of me. THIS IS COMPLETELY, UNACCEPTABLE AND absolutely disgusting. This alone I would never ever return. There is no excuse for that NO MATTER what the reason. Then dessert came and people finished before the coffee or tea they requested came out. For the amount of money we paid for such a large group I was very disappointed in this restaurant. I think you should strongly reconsider ever stepping foot into this place. Just returning food to another customer after someone else touched it is such a violation of the Department of Health. Oh the manager could care less when we...
