Fresco Meat & Fish Market — Restaurant in New York

When this place first opened it was great, the fish was great and the meat was great. But over the last year I noticed that the customers where less and less. I used to get my wild caught salmon here because the price was good and it was fresh but then my salmon fillets started to have a lot of bones in it and it wasn't as fresh anymore. So I took a break from here for awhile. Came back and the head guy started being pushy about buying more product that I didn't need or want. I understand you want to up sell but gosh don't be overly pushy about it. So I stopped going again. Then I went yesterday to get some flounder asked for 2lbs guy give me 3.5lbs I said excuse me but that's way too much. He says I'll give you good price and me not thinking said okay. He gave me absolutely no discount. when I got home and opened the bag the fish smelled old and overly fishy smelling. I baked it in the oven and it turned out mushy when it was done. Now being someone who worked the boats in Maine, I know when it's mushy that it was frozen at some point and thawed and frozen again. That's not fresh people! Your fish should not smell fishy and it shouldn't be mush after cooked thoroughly! This place doesn't have the amount of customers in the store for him to have the turn over rate of fresh fish. Employees ruin the experience also by being pushy to get you to buy more. If this happens to you ask for a receipt to see if you really get a discount. I won't be going back anymore. First time shame on you, second time shame on me lol!! Now I don't know anything about the grill part they offer when they cook for you. I've never had that experience. I'm only speaking about buying fresh fish or meat and taking it home. I will say the store is extremely clean. This place is a hidden gem. Staff is very friendly, patient and accommodating. The prices are very fair and they have a wide variety of fresh fish and meats. I don’t have any complaints. It’s a little hard to find parking in the area but I think it’s worth the hassle. I would recommend this place! First of all, they have grass fed lambchops and grass fed steak! I went here for the first few times, and I must say I was impressed. I was skeptical at first cause it is the south Bronx and 170 lol. But, This is the best seafood hub on 170! You can buy seafood to cook at home, or have them steam it, or grill it for you on on-site. Their grill is official !!!!!
