In many ways, the work of a Google Maps Local Guide is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of large portion sizes combined with extremely low lunch-menu prices. The world is often unkind to those like me who need lots of food in their gullets to feel good, and aren't happy after a meal unless their food-baby bulges like a high-altitude balloon before it's shot down over US territorial waters off the coast of South Carolina. To say that both the meal and its servers have challenged my preconception about food prices in New York City is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for bougie Italian places. But I realize, only now do I truly understand their nature. Not every chic Italian establishment can fill me up and also make me feel taken care of price-wise, but such an experience can come from Fumo's $12 Penne a la Vodka. I will be returning to Fumo soon,...
Read morePRIVATE PARTY - executed flawlessly. In November we held a private party at FUMO for about 40 guests. Like any other host we were nervous and wanted everything to be flawless. We were EXCEPTIONALLY pleased with the care and attention the owner Piero of FUMO gave to our event. The room was ready on time and set up perfectly. The appetizers came out on time hot and delicious, spicy calamari, a choice of pizza’s, and rice balls. They generously kept the drinks flowing as the staff was very attentive.
Our first course included two salad and pasta. The main course Salmon and Chicken Marsala. The owner made the great suggestion that everything be served family style so no one had to choose and could eat everything. It was the RIGHT DECISION. THERE WAS SO MUCH FOOD – and it was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS.
We received SO many compliments on the food. The team worked very well together and handled several special requests (for vegans and vegetarians). The space is PERFECT for a private event up to 60 people (they have a side room). Bright and airy – and brand new it leant towards a good feeling for all. Our guests left smiling and we felt we got REAL VALUE. I would highly recommend for a...
Read moreI frequent this restaurant & it is one of my favorite places to eat. But last night was 10/12 was disappointing. I brought one of my good friends with me to introduce them to some good Italian food. We were met by our server Naruemon K. everything was fine until she took the order. I ordered a baked ziti and so did my friend. For some reason she interpreted that we only wanted one. She came back and noticed I was not eating but my partner was. She stated that she thought we were sharing, I clearly told her no we are not and i would like my own meal. I assumed that she would then put the order in. unbeknownst to me I spent almost a half hour waiting for the food… she came back to ask if I wanted more wine… I said yes, when she came back with the wine I inquired on my food and she looked confused and said “ I thought you were sharing “ as if we didn’t have this convo for a second time. Nevertheless, I got frustrated and was too hungry to wait for another 30 minutes so I ordered a salad. I was super disappointed that she didn’t attempt to rectify the mistake. I left still hungry after spending over $130. Very said because again, it’s my favorite place and I was waiting...
