Two issues. First, I ordered one red velvet mini cupcake. I specified it clearly to the staff, since I knew there was also a regular red velvet cake piece, much bigger than a mini, with more than twice higher price. I was looking at my phone when she was packing it, and absent-mindedly swiped my credit card. Then I noticed they charged +7$ for what was supposed to be $3.5. I asked if the price tag on the mini cupcake was incorrect. My guess is that she didn't even know there were red velvet minis at all given her first excuse ("that is not a price for red velvet"), so she didnt pay attention to which red velvet I was ordering. I asked if she could refund it, then I could purchase a mini. She then pointed at the "no refund" sign on the wall. ?!! Is that really a sign for a situation like this? Isn't it for those who take a bite and ask for refund because it tastes bad? I told her I didn't need anything bigger than a mini cupcake, then she said I could take 2 cupcakes as they were about the same price. (I just said I didn't want a bigger portion.) It's $3.5 vs $7.5 - I would've just left without asking more if she acknowledged a possible mistake on her end. "sorry for miscommunication but this machine doesn't allow me to refund.." would've been nice. Secondly, it tasted so bad. The bread texture was so extremely dry and stale. The icing on top was also dry and tasted dusty. I think this cake was made quite long time ago. It had no tangy flavor unique to red velvets. In fact, it didn't really taste like anything - not vanilla, not chocolate - just sugar. It was a surprise treat for my kid who loves a cake. This was a rare occasion she had two bites and said no to the rest. They went to...
Read moreI've been a customer here for about six months. The hosts' energy is always slightly off, and I should've stopped there. Today, I paid in cash, and when handing the $20 bill to the clerk, the bill ripped a tiny bit. He saw that and told me that he couldn't accept it. I asked why, and he replied his boss checks at night. I've never in my American life heard of a business that wouldn't take cash that has a tiny rip. Most places keep tape at the register. There was no consideration given for being a loyal customer. I didn't bring my cards, so I couldn't get what I went there for. This is not the place I need to spend my money, and I will...
Read moreI have been to this lovely cafe three times. The first time just for coffee and a visit with a friend. Second time I went to really look at the lovely cookies and pasteries; the young lady behind the counter was wonderful and helpful!! Not only did I try these cookies pictured (walnut cookie w/jam and chocolate dipped butter cookie) she introduced me to a delicacy called "Orange Pie."! Life changing! Yesterday was my third visit! This cafe is definetly worth the price and any new business might take a moment to get a foot-hold. Omonia Cafe NYC has moved to the top of my list!! Can't wait for my next tea party! Welcome to the...
