I've been a loyal customer at this diner, living right across the street and enjoying many good meals here, but after my experience last Friday morning, I cannot overlook the unacceptable service.
The food and coffee were as good as always, but the service was downright appalling. My friend and I were casually chatting in our booth after breakfast when the waiter abruptly asked us to leave. With at least 10 other open tables and no waiting customers, he first brought the check and then returned five minutes later, waving us off with a curt, "Could you guys please leave." No explanation was provided, and no courtesy was extended. The hostess, sensing the awkwardness, even offered to comp our meal—a kind gesture that felt inappropriate given the waiter's unprofessional behavior. While her offer was well-intentioned (we didn't take her up on it), the real issue is the staff's conduct. Management should focus on retraining this waiter in customer service skills and appropriate interaction protocols.
As a long-time regular who has dined here for years, I hope the restaurant will take meaningful steps to address this incident. Diners should be welcoming and respectful, not places where patrons are arbitrarily rushed out. I trust management will ensure such treatment does not happen to...
Read morePlease beware tips being added to your bill and then not getting a receipt. Yesterday I had a lunch alone at this diner. It was fine. I left an appropriate cash tip on my table for my waiter whose service was fine, too. I then went to pay at the cashier and the two women at the register were fumbling around between different checks being paid. She took mine and my credit card, she did the payment, she proceeded to wrinkle up the receipt, and then handed me back my card. I asked for the receipt. She unwrinkled the receipt and handed it back to me, and I then saw that I was billed a 20% tip at the register. I said this should never be done, that I paid a cash tip at my table. She fumbled around and, with some relunctance and a few questions, handed back to me the amount she charged me for the tip. I received no apology from this woman. I left the place questioning if this was a mistake or a tactic to pad their profits. It was unfortunate, but with so many other options this incident probably will cause me to not...
Read moreCute classic diner situation, but the food is weak and incredibly overpriced unfortunately (yes, I live in New York and expect to pay a premium on everything but this was not worth it).
My husband’s BLT was just a chunk of tomato and iceberg lettuce with some room temperature bacon and (I guess) the cheapest white bread available. I could have made myself a better omelette at home (I wish I had stayed home instead of gone out for food). Toast was cold. Hash browns were good though! Definitely not worth $17.
The staff gave off a general “I don’t care” vibe. We were asked to move tables a couple of minutes after we were seated (by their staff).
I typically don’t write negative reviews because I understand how hard it is to run a business and meet everyone’s needs but overall it was an incredibly disappointing experience. Felt like the biggest waste of time and money. Trust me, you can make better food at home or go elsewhere for great food. It was essentially just...
