I think this place has fantastic potential. It is in a beautiful spot with many people passing by. What a beautiful spot. However I found a couple things worth noting that turned me a bit off about this place.
First was the greeting. I have worked in coffee shops for 10+ years, and being manager for a few of those years. The one thing that I always taught my employees is no matter what at least greet the customer coming in. If I have to say hello first, or I am not greeted that’s not a very good start. I stood at the counter that three young ladies were working and was never greeted. I had to say “hello how are ya?” And that sound be reversed. And their response was so passive. Work time isn’t “hang with your friends” time. Your greeting isn’t just “your greeting”. You as an employee are representing that establishment, as well as that owner when they aren’t there. Not being greeted or looked at isn’t a very good start.
The second one is just a personal preference. I don’t understand coffee shops that “put the milk in for you” when you order and iced coffee or hot coffee. I have never understood that in all my years of service and management. How would anyone know how much milk the customer would like in their drink?
Over all really really pretty place with so much potential, maybe today wasn’t the best day that I came in on but it is something that...
Read moreUsed to be a regular here for 4 months during my freelance days - dual laptop setup, bought 2 meals + coffee daily, always tipped well, engaged with the community. Built genuine connections with other customers and even talked with people about their dogs and travel stories. Then one day a manager decided to question whether I had "bought anything that day" despite my obvious setup and history as a paying customer. When I offered to show receipts, the whole interaction left such a sour taste that I never returned. It's disappointing when a coffee shop prioritizes suspicious gatekeeping over fostering the community that actually supports the business. There are plenty of other places in NYC that treat customers like human beings rather than potential threats. The space itself is fine, but management's approach to customer relations is unnecessarily hostile. If you're looking for a place to work or just enjoy coffee without being made to feel unwelcome, I'd recommend checking out The Oma, Shop II Coffee + Lifestyle, Le Cafe Coffee, or Cafe Grumpy - Rockefeller Center instead - all places that understand how to build genuine community.Ground Support's loss of a loyal customer was completely preventable with just basic respect and...
Read moreGround support has been my go to coffee spot for the past 10 years. Today I had a very disappointing encounter with the staff. I came to the shop and ordered my usual coffee but also asked the barista what was in the brekkie burrito I saw on the wall.
The barista said: eggs, cheddar cheese, leafy greens and spicy sauce. There was a long line of people behind me and I told him I take it. When I got the burrito unfortunately it was covered in black beans which I can’t eat and was not aware they were part of the sandwich. I went back to the staff and asked if they can make a new one without it and they were fine with it. I wait outside and couple min in the female manager comes out and tells me I need to buy the new sandwich because there is a “full menu” when u click the code on the wall so I should have seen it… Obviously I will not pay 15$ for an other sandwich I didn’t touch.
To be honest it’s crazy disappointing to see the treatment I got to the point I don’t think I can see myself come back there, which is a shame cause it was my favorite place for way before this manager finished high school.
I hope the owner will train ur employees to act...
