I have eaten at this restaurant for years. The guy who delivered my food was always grumpy and would press the bell for 15 seconds to long and then growl when dropped off the food. The food was good so I didn’t mind much. I have been on a diet for a bit so I haven’t been to the restaurant in a few months. I went with my wife and another couple tonight and ordered a variety of dishes. The food was horrible, simple vegetables tasted old, had no flavor, and were oddly soft. My wife’s stopped eating her dish after she spotted three hairs. The white rice, a staple of this cuisine was horrible. A noodle dish, admittedly not Hunan, was significantly Al dente, but in the past was excellent. I told my table that I had to say something, they begged me not to call out the issues and so we left, after paying the $100+ bill. I walked a block said goodbye to my friends turned the corner and called. Anything could have been better then the response I got, I explained I had been eating there for years, but tonight’s food was just disgusting, all the woman that answered would say is why didn’t you tell us when you were here? I explained why, and then she asked again... No apology, no explanation nothing, she just stopped talking. When I asked why she asked again why I did t say anything while I was there, I explained again that my friends were embarrassed and just said we’ll never eat here again. But I loved this restaurant enough to call hoping to hear some explanation and in stead I got silence. The kind of silence that says: We have plenty of people that don’t know better. So I asked, are you more comfortable with me leaving a public review and I got silence. I said that I was disappointed and added that I wasn’t asking for anything other then an explanation and got silence again. So I said goodbye. Don’t eat here, it isn’t sanitary, the food has become the worst example of any Chinese cuisine, and worst of all instead of showing some concern for a disappointed customer, I got silence, which interpreted as: we...
Read moreThe first time we visited to Hunan Manor Restaurant was excellent. The food was great and the service by our female waitress was even better (she was tipped generously). This experience is what inspired us to return. Our second experience, however, was a complete 180 from our first and an utter disappointment. Upon arrival we sat down and ordered our food. My wife, however, was exhausted and not feeling well, so we soon asked the waiter (a male who, i am assuming, must be the owner of the establishment) to prepare us some boxes for our food. Almost instantly the atmosphere around his service became one of annoyance and difficulty, and with every word that was spoken my wife and I felt less and less welcome. We asked for a few small containers of hoisin sauce to be placed in the bag, and the man became even more irritated and ruffled, as if we were trying to take advantage of him and his restaurant. As we left, i mentioned our experience to both the man and the woman attending the cash register - that we had been so pleased with our previous visit, and that we felt unwelcome and a bother to the wait staff this time around. The man immediately scoffed at us, and refused to acknowledge a word we had said, or address our concerns. My wife and i are very disappointed with this experience, and do not plan on returning in the future. The woman that served us a few nights prior had been so wonderful, and offered us with one of our finest dining experiences. I feel sad that such a wonderful employee seems to be working under a store owner who cares so little about his customers, and i hope she finds a better working situation...
Read moreCame here Twice in April on a short visit while staying in Murray Hill and COULD NOT WAIT TO COME BACK on my next trip in August! And once again, Hunan Manor hit it out of the Park! Four of us arrived about forty five minutes before closing, famished, and asked if they would prefer it if we ordered our food to go as it was so late. Both front of house staff and gentlemen on the floor graciously asked us please to stay and to take our time. Our waiter was courteous, informative and genuinely funny and kind. Our food was SCRUMPTIOUS!! Portions were very generous - between us all, we ate Cold Sesame Noodles (THE BEST I’ve EVER HAD ANYWHERE; super spicy silky liquid sauce instead of that awful goopy paste some places offer), delicious crispy scallion pancakes, sautéed green beans full of flavor, tangerine chicken and spicy prawns and every dish...
