I had the misfortune of having Winnie as my nail tech on two disastrous occasions.

My first time there I was made to wait because Winnie was late to work. She came in panting and sweating and got to work just about right away still catching her breath. All good, things happen, no big deal. So, it was a 15minute wait. I wasn't in a hurry that day anyways.

She was rough as hell on my cuticles. She presses on the nail bed too hard. All right. Maybe she just needs time to center herself. I asked her if they had a quick drying topcoat, she assured me that was the only thing they used in the salon to my pleasant surprise. How generous, since other places charge extra to opt for fast dry top coats.

Except she was wrong? I waited patiently for over 20mins in the drying area and the color still migrated creating wavy patterns aka it did not dry. This as you know, would not occur with something like Seche Vite.

Oh well, a fluke and some miscommunication. Gave it another shot a few weeks later.

Second occasion, I was all set with my own pot of Seche Vite. By pure chance I got her again. She was on time, great! Still rough and rushed on the cuticles, not great. Tackled my heels sloppily and roughly, stubbing my toe with the top of the implement in the process, not great. No apology, just relentless begrudging morose silence from her, not great. "Forgot" my shoulder massage, already working on the next client while I took a quick trip to the restroom, not great.

So I'm thinking this is just her at her best since I'm her first customer of the day on both occasions.

Why didn't I say anything during? How do you get someone who doesn't care to care? A client is clearly flinching in her hands and she choose to ignore it time and again. I'd rather not further enrage her unprovoked bubbling angst that had so far been directed solely to my feet. So I just prayed for it to be over quickly. Just my luck, a second time with no pleasure of friendly service!

Gave her 18% on both occasions but this experience deserves to be shared.

I don't think this is reflective of the place as a whole, the other girls seem to have amiability and Normal Casual Human interactions with their clients.

Meanwhile I was treated like a cow on a factory line.

Hope you have better...

UPDATE: Owner responded and is lying about me “not having to pay before” my service. My friend and if I could find the other customers would vouch that I was asked to pay before my service. My friend even commented that, “that’s strange, why are you paying before your nails are even painted?”Additionally, it is also a lie that you could check the cameras as you have no idea what day I am referring to and thus cannot say that my experience is inaccurate.

Asian owned business can be racist just like any other establishment. AND, when my friend was paying for her service, after it was done, we were both “reminded” that tips can be done through cash which is basically a rude reminder when I intentionally did not tip due to my horrible experience.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

First and last time I visit this place. I came with my friend and I was the ONLY person in the establishment who was asked to pay for their service BEFORE I even got it done (a simple manicure.) It is important to note that I was the only Black woman in the shop among many white women and my friend who is Latina. It was embarrassing and frustrating.

Additionally, the manicure itself was bad. Once the nails dried, you could see exactly where the brushes strokes were, so, overall, not a great experience.

Life lesson: don’t project your biases on your customers then proceed to ask for a tip for a poorly done service.

I normally tip but this...

Technically I’m giving them a 4.5 rating, but google doesn’t allow half stars.

I had a woman named “Emma” and she was very meticulous with her craft, which I appreciated. She seemed to take pride and care in what she was doing and checked regularly with me if I liked how it looked. She was gentle with my hands and didn’t rush the process. It felt relaxing. The space was clean and quiet and well lit. They seem to offer a lot of other services, such as waxing and massage, but I can’t speak to those. Personally, I think a nail salon should just stick to nails but that’s only my opinion.

The reason for my half star deduction is because when I told the technician I wanted a French manicure, it wasn’t made clear to me that they automatically make it a gel manicure. In my experience when at a nail salon, they ask if I’d like it to be gel or at least specify “this is gel” or something. I’d never done gel before so I had no idea what the process was like. Also, this was my first time going there, so it was a shock to me when the price came as I was expecting a regular manicure and had budgeted for something...

I usually don’t write reviews but I have to. This is what my French gel manicure looks like 3 weeks after getting them done. Perfect French shape in my opinion, and you can barely tell it’s been 3 weeks. I’m actually going to push one more week before getting them removed because they don’t get stuck in my hair or anything. This is the best salon I’ve been to in the city. Prices are very cheap compared to similar quality of service in the city. Staff is super friendly, it’s super clean, they do an amazing job. I booked 2 hours before showing up, the manicure was done in 40min. There is a loyalty program that I definitely joined since this has become my new nail place 10000%. Highly highly recommend

75$ for a pedicure that lasted less than an hour. Don't get me wrong it was alright. Made an appointment and it was confirmed they were not ready when I arrived (grant it was opening) the massage was good but the polish job was not the best kind of streaking they did offer a third coat but that wouldn't have helped for how sheer this color is. Luckily this was my before winter prep for my feet so idc. The aesthetic of the place I do like, but as a consumer I wish I didn't see storage as soon as I walked in. There are quite a few more on the same street so pick wisely I guess...good luck!
