Very surprised at the positive reviews here. Food was not exceptional as some reviewers claim. Upon reading a similar review to mine, it was pretty much the consistent about the terrible service except for the "profiling" comment. Never considered this since we don't look for it. But it does explain how we were treated. If the serving staff do this, that's just shameful!!
Rating -1 star should be 0 stars!! Wish we had seen the honest reviews written prior to eating at this terrible restaurant. Where does one begin?
Side note: There is no Accessibility here. Saw an elderly man told he wasn't allowed his cane to walk in and out of the restaurant. He needed a family member to hold his arm so he could safely leave without being trampled, shoved or pushed by waiting staff. Their selfish attitude is to take your money and get you out for the next poor saps to enter.
Shameful treatment! Just awful to see this happen before our eyes! This restaurant ruins the reputation of New York Chinatown. There are far better restaurants out there. Skip...
Read moreWe have been going to Jing Fong in China Town for the last 6 years and have been strong advocates for them. This week, we went to their new Chinatown location. We were very excited. What was supposed to be a nice family outing was completely ruined by very rude and discriminatory behavior. When I came back from the restroom , my check was no longer on the table. Looks like the waiter had taken it as he was cleaning the table. When I said we have not paid, can you please give me a copy of the check so I can pay, there was so much confusion and commotion . They asked me to check my bag which I did. I am the one who told them that I had not paid and needed the check. Five people came and started talking (not sure why they could not generate a copy of the check) . I then told them the approx amount I had seen on the check if that would help them locate it on their system. They were finally able to produce a check. Literary snatched my card from my hand and almost ushered us out (it was very aggressive ) . My child and I were totally shaken by the incident. They were disorganized through out our visit ( and I am giving them the benefit of doubt here ). They seemed to more disorganized when it came to some tables. It was not lost on us the whole time we were there and that heir response and service to tables was preferential. It was hard to miss that the two tables where it took almost 30 minutes to get some one to bring water ( and that too after multiple request ) were the ones with only women and children and that too minority . The other tables had no issues getting waiter attention, water etc . I would not have said anything to that (benefit of doubt always ) but the incident at check out was very telling. The fact the five people materialized when I was trying to get them to give me a copy of the check so I could pay , when most of them could not ‘see’ me when we were asking for water, is hard to ignore. It ruined our day and a favorite place for me and my child. We will definitely NOT be going back We did leave a tip because we understand people work hard. However, treating people (including children) with aggression and rudeness based on profiling … and bias is...
Read moreThis was my first and likely my last visit to Jing Fong. The food was just mediocre—nothing memorable or impressive—but the service was absolutely appalling.
I can now understand why their ratings are so low and why there are so many complaints about tipping. The service was downright awful. When we asked for water, instead of simply getting it, the server told us they had to ask someone else, and in the end, nobody cared whether we got water or not. At any other restaurant, this would have been a basic expectation that doesn't even require asking. And to make things worse, when we went to pay, they claimed they didn’t bring water because they thought we would order beverages. Absolutely ridiculous.
The gas fumes from the carts were suffocating, and I honestly wonder if years of inhaling it have fried their brains. When we asked them to move the cart that was parked next to our table because of the overwhelming gas smell, they passed the request to someone else, delayed action, and even rolled their eyes at us. Why should this even take a discussion? If this gas issue isn’t resolved, it’s truly sad for everyone dining here.
And the tipping, like all the other bad reviews, they also complain about the tip amount. So, no proactive service, no water, refuse to move a cart that actively bothered customers—what part of this service deserves 20%? I still tipped nearly $20, and honestly, this is not about percentage, I shouldn’t have even paid for anything for such terrible service.
Basic respect for customers is not too...
