I recently found myself in a bit of a culinary predicament near Grand Central Station one evening around 9 pm. Most restaurants had already closed their doors, but luckily, I stumbled upon Joy Curry and Tandoor, and it turned out to be a delightful discovery.
As a food enthusiast, I was in search of a satisfying meal, and this restaurant did not disappoint. Despite the late hour, they still had a variety of options available for takeaway. I opted for the meal pack, which included two curries, vegetables, naan, and extra rice.
Now, let's dive into the flavors. While I was pleased with most of the dishes, there were a couple that didn't quite hit the mark. The samosas and palak paneer, unfortunately, fell a bit short in terms of taste. They lacked the robust flavors I had come to expect from these dishes. However, the rest of the offerings more than made up for it.
The curries were the star of the show. Bursting with aromatic spices, they tantalized my taste buds with every bite. The balance of flavors was on point, and the richness of the sauces was simply delightful. It was evident that the chefs at Joy Curry and Tandoor know their way around Indian cuisine.
The portion sizes were also commendable. I found them to be generous, ensuring that I left the restaurant feeling satisfied and content. The naan was warm and fluffy, the perfect accompaniment to soak up the flavorful curries. The extra rice was a welcome addition, providing an ample base to enjoy the vibrant sauces.
While the samosas and palak paneer may have fallen short, the overall experience at Joy Curry and Tandoor was a positive one. The delicious curries, generous portion sizes, and convenient location near Grand Central Station made it a great choice for a late-night takeaway.
If you find yourself in the area and craving some Halal Indian cuisine, I would recommend giving Joy Curry and Tandoor a try. Just make sure to explore their menu beyond the samosas and palak paneer, and you're bound to discover some truly yum-worthy dishes that will satisfy...
Read moreI was craving for masala tea more than curry but figured if a place can do both, why not. So i called and asked if they make masala tea and the person enthusiastically confirmed. Since the place was not too far I walked there and found the place but realized the food was cafeteria style where they drop what you ask for in the takeout box. No problem, if it tastes okay. Going by the looks of the food, i stayed away from my original choice lamb vindaloo, which looked unnaturally red (food coloring??) and went with lamb curry, palak paneer, rice and naan, oh and of course my masala tea, which they had prepared already!. I asked where these guys are from and they said Bangladesh.. My antennas went up right then, but it was too late. Bangladeshis don't do indian food right, sorry for general classification, but I have eaten at many Bangladesh eateries, faking indian food and never found one half way decent, as far as indian food comes. I cook indian food and I know what most of these items should taste like. The lamb curry had a smell, overly spiced and yet tasteless, the palak(spinach) in palak paneer was not emulsified and tasted raw, without spices. The naan, was probably store bought stuff, microwaved, because by the time I go to my food, it was extremely leathery and hard. The raita (yogurt sauce) was missing from the Lunch platter, though mentioned as part of the deal. The worst was the "masala chai (tea)". Okay, if you don't make them, let me know when I ask for "masala chai" The $1.50 sorry excuse watery concoction was exactly 1 teabag dipped in boiling water, with some milk and no sugar. If you are not putting in sugar, at least offer some sugar packets to let me know it is not sweet. Nope, nothing. As of now in this cold spring weather, I am still craving masala tea, and fuming at being lied at. I am crossing out this place for my curry fix and "masala tea" for the food quality...
Read moreThe nasty look me and a friend got from the guy behind the counter...I said maybe he was having a bad day as it was Xmas and he was still working. We were told that we'd have only 10 minutes to eat as they have to close. This was a lie. You'd think that with the restaurant being empty you'd try to get people to stay (it helps to draw in customers). 10 minutes passed and 2 groups of customers came in. They didn't get the look my friend and I got and they certainly weren't given 10 minutes to eat and leave. Then, I asked for a to-go container after being ignored how many minutes by the same guy and another who might have been a manager or maybe the owner of the place. I was told to give him some time to be patient. Why is it took almost 10 minutes to get something that was literally right in front of him. I'm not kidding you that the guy literally left where he was (where the containers were unbeknownst to me) to start cleaning up and I had to remind him 10 minutes later that I had asked for a to-go container. He gave me a couple with no apology. I didn't even bother to ask for a bag to put the containers in. I went and got a few on my own. Really horrible customer service. People should be treated the same regardless of race. Won't contribute to such a disgusting place again. It also seems as if I was charged a dollar more for my meal without...
