It's a little crazy that there's two Juniors in walking distance, but hey, that's the NYC Times Square area for you! You can't go wrong with either. And I say that not even being a cheesecake fan! If you want a good, filling meal, and need variety for you and your friends, Junior's is a great place to consider. A delicious selection of seafood, BBQ, sandwiches and more.
On my visit to this location, I enjoyed a hot pastrami sandwich on rye, which was very filling, without being obscenely stuffed with meat (I mean seeing a giant sandwich is visually pretty, but really, I don't need pounds of meat at a sitting). A shocker- I was even offered an option to put cheese on my sandwich. If I even suggested that at a classic NYC deli, they'd throw me out to the curb, so if you're a cheese lover, rejoice, and if you're not, don't judge too harshly! Don't forget the fresh pickles, beets and if you like it, cole slaw - classic pairing and fresh.
My friend got a seafood platter, and a shrimp appetizer to share- and if you enjoy fried fish, you're in for a treat. Nicely coated, not overly breaded so you can taste the fresh fish, and not oily or greasy at all. Again, generous portion.
I can't speak to the cheesecake, but I can say it is beautiful to look at and looks like it makes an excellent gift for those who do love it.
Service: fabulous. The wait staff was attentive without hovering, and was good enough to make suggestions and answer questions. For my friends with disabilities, this is an accessible space, with a ramp available. The staff was good enough to be at the ready to assist, while letting my friends aide do her job, allowing my friend to transfer out of her wheelchair into a regular seat, then the staff tucked away her chair until we were done so that everyone has access to walk/roll about.
The environment is very pretty and colorful, well lit with options for outdoor seating in better weather and temps. About the only downside I found was that the place is so big, it can get a bit noisy with the number of diners, so if you're looking for a quiet chat and dinner for two, this is not your spot. If you're getting together with friends, family and looking for something bright and lively, you'll be in good company....
Read more7/2025: Good, but nothing amazing anymore, at least this location. There are too many other great diners in NYC to choose from to waste your time here. Corned beef and pastrami was good, not dry, but no better than a similar place I've reviewed in Central Florida. Provolone cheese not even available to add... Shake tasted good but thinned out quick. Sauerkraut pickles instead of dill, which is such a huge letdown every time I have one. Wish they had both to choose from. Very pricey for what you're getting these days. Definitely feels touristy, which I guess is expected given the location. They have another location 4 blocks north, which I imagine feels the same. Maybe the original one was (still is?) the best and these Times Square ones became a money grab?
2023: Very good diner originally from Brooklyn. The LOCATION of this particular branch is on the Northwest side of the building on West 45th St, NOT on Broadway where Google Maps pin is placed. This makes it somewhat difficult to find as the building is very large and you may end up walking around it. There is another Juniors listing pinned at that location and the two should be merged. Pastrami and brisket sandwiches were excellent. Of course the NY Cheesecake is excellent! This is pretty much quintessential New York cheesecake - better than Cheesecake Factory and a must try for anyone who has never had it. Fries and coleslaw are very good. Potato pancake was excellent including the applesauce which was chunky and very fresh. The complimentary beets were delicious, although the pickles are sauerkraut flavored not kosher dills. Their side Caesar salad was the worst I've ever had - lots of bitter romaine with very little thin dressing. This was a shame as Caesars are my favorite salad and I was looking forward to it. I returned it and they very generously gave me something else, a French onion soup which was very good. Unsweet iced tea was brewed, not fountain thankfully. Our server was extremely nice and helpful. Bathrooms were clean. The whole restaurant ambience is very nice and they have a large...
Read moreThings in NYC don't really stay open around the clock like they used to even in Times Square. The pandemic and the shifting labor market has hurt restaurants, nightclubs, and bars, other businesses as well of course. If you want to soak-up any drinks you've had then save Junior's for eating before closing you will not be sorry.
Juniors has been around since the 1950's in a few different locations and is a place I would go to around the clock but they close about midnight during the week. They are world famous for their cheesecake, or cakes I should say, all the desserts are awesome - we did not eat them all - we can vouch for the cheesecake, it's a huge portion, dense, and super good, not too sweet. Oh, you can send these cakes to anyone you want anywhere in the world which is pretty amazing.
You will pay a little more here on menu items, you will at any Times Square restaurant, real estate is not cheap, plus it's a heavy tourist area, but you will eat, pay, and be happy. The room is huge, lots of tables and seats, they turnover tables at a great pace. The high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows give you great visibility outside-in and inside-out. Awesome for people watching in both directions. This place is VERY busy. Staff and service is okay. The team seating the room is like a machine, if you wait you wait as long as they tell you. If they say it will be ten minutes it will be pretty spot-on. Menu is huge, diner-like, large plates and portions. The pickles are really good, classic dill, coleslaw good and you can ask for more and get it if you want more. Fries are large steak-fries type, hot crispy, what else is there to say?
It is worth making this a destination place after 10PM since there are few places in the city open later these days. I am not a tourist but if you get out of theater late then eat here. Have fun, Junior's is an...
