Terrible, do not have afternoon or high tea here. From their not customer service oriented reservation system where you have to not only call to make a reservation, but you have to call back the day before to confirm your reservation or you lose your reservation. Welcome to 2024. Hire a staff or get an app. Ridiculous!
When you arrive it's very cute from the outside and very disorganized on the inside. There was already three parties waiting before us and no one greeted us. There was what appear to be one slow moving elderly gentleman setting up one of the dining rooms. Finally, he said that he would be with us as soon as he sets up the room. I did see another younger gentleman who thankfully appeared to be helping him.
Did he check in the people who were waiting the longest first? No!
He came to us first because we were closest to the host stand which pissed off the people who arrived ahead of us, rightly so.
The dining room was like sitting in a cramped refrigerator because it was so drafty.
There were only 4 tables of 14 people total in our dining area, but the service was incredibly slow for a place thats been open almost 30 years
Our waiter slowly served everyone ice water in the freezing cold room when what we really needed was tea.
There appeared to be no order to the service although the woman who complained the loudest got served first.
There was a delay in taking everyone's order for the miniscule main course. Honestly, they should have skipped that course because who eats the main course after they've gotten and eaten all their other food including the desserts? Plus, the main courses they served were completely forgettable. I'll get back to that.
It was a half hour before we received any tea or food, but we should have been grateful since another table waited over an hour.
Let's talk about the food.
First of all, they only served one kind of holiday tea because it was a special holiday version of afternoon tea. Not cool. People who drink afternoon tea want to be able to choose from a variety of teas. This is available normally but it was not available to us.
There was another person "serving", as it turned out, one of the owners, who pushed back when I asked for more tea bags for my tea. He relented and brought some after I insisted.
The scones for the worst ones I've ever been served. Like miserable hockey pucks. My boyfriend's mother said they should have been called stones instead of scones.
The little appetizers on the top tier of the tea tower were fine. A smoked salmon roll up, a deviled egg and a cheese squirted into a prefab tart shell.
The middle tier had two kinds of tea sandwiches. Only two.
The coronation chicken sandwich was very short on actual chicken salad but at least it was tasty.
Cucumber sandwich bread was stale. .
They shorted us on the sweets. Meaning they were not four of each kind per person. We paid per person with the presumption that we would each get to try the variety of cakes. We had to cut them in half
They didn't make up for the shortage with amazing little cakes. The pecan square was ok but the others were not special at all.
The upside of being in a really cramped dining room is being about to see that another table got macaron. We got none.
There was no attempt to clear between courses.
Two of us had the baby bland mushroom bisque with the matchbox truffle gruyere grilled cheese sandwiches that were ice cold. The soup was warm so my boyfriend shoved shoved the sandwiches in the cup to try to heat them up. The fig tart which was not really a tart at all was it. It was one of the hockey puck scones topped with melted cheese and then hidden under a pathetic looking salad with a slice of pear. The table next to us got an actual tart shell!
We asked for the check before we realized we were getting yet another course. Cold apple cider in a demi-tasse cup with a petrified gingerbread cookie on the side as well as a a tiny bit of peppermint bark and a piece of candied orange.
It was so bad we felt like we were being pranked...
Read moreLove this place!! I found this tea house after doing a Google search for affordable places to host a wedding. The first time I stopped by, I spoke with the waiter and the owner about wedding expenses breakdowns, and all I can say is that this place is lovely. Not only did I get to talk about my plans for my wedding, but the owner went into talking about his wedding from over twenty years ago, and we talked about my fiance a little bit (the owner is from Ireland, and my fiance is from London). They answered all of my questions, and they welcomed me to call and come back with more questions at any time. They walked me through the whole restaurant and told me about my options for seating arrangements and decorations, etc.
About my dining experience....the atmosphere is wonderful here. You're sitting in a room decorated old world to feel like you're at someone's home listening to classical music from a variety of styles of classical. (I think I heard klezmer at one time.) It's almost cottage core here. The hustle and bustle of the city is left behind as you sit to appreciate the art of afternoon tea. I was alone, but I still enjoyed myself very much. The waiter is quick, and the space is small enough that you don't have to try too hard to get attention. I wish I had mentioned that I am gluten free because they can accommodate that. Whoever is cooking in the kitchen is well trained because these sandwiches look individually and thoughtfully handcrafted, not at all stamped out sandwich shapes with common ingredients. The tea consists of loose leaves in a small bag, and the tea keeps a consistently strong taste throughout your meal, no matter how many times the pot is refilled. The entres are delicious, but a little on the small side. I ordered the salmon, which is also on the events catering menu. The taste is very satisfying. My compliments to the chef! What feels most pleasurable about this place is that it feels like you are dining high society without the classism, which makes you really appreciate everyone around you. My whole bill including tip came out to $60.00. The whole thing was worth every penny. I will definitely be coming back here to try other entres and show my support for this business. I still have to discuss this place with my fiance, but I really hope this is what we...

I came here for my birthday celebration and mentioned it to my server. The menu says they give you a special birthday tea cake but when I told my server it was my birthday he just laughed awkwardly and walked away... He didn't even wish me a happy birthday. Way to make it weird! If that's not the case anymore please remove it from your menu!
My favorites were the sesame chicken salad tea sandwich on RAISIN bread (sounds weird but I really enjoyed it!), chocolate tea cake, fresh scones, and pomegranate oolong tea. They will refill your hot water at your request and mostly leave you alone unless you need something. I didn't feel rushed, which was nice. They can accommodate a vegetarian menu and a gluten free menu with 24 hour notice. They subbed out my salmon item for a vegetarian option since I don't eat seafood, which was lovely! They cannot really accommodate vegans or those with nut allergies though. It was a bit chilly by the back glass doors.
Looks like they serve Harney & Sons brand teas exclusively. Their alcoholic drinks looked good. Smaller side portions but you can add on an entree for an extra $10, which was pretty tiny FYI. I personally thought it was enough food but I drank 2 pots of tea and have a smaller appetite than most of my friends. Cute cozy cottage/hunter's cabin decor. Bathroom was clean. The (owner's?) dog in the front was hiccupping all night, which was so cute. $60 after tax and tip. I'm happy I came but don't feel the need to come back since I think the menu stays pretty much the same. I prefer a menu where you can pick your sandwiches and/or desserts so you can order different...
