Osteria Nando — Restaurant in New York

i’m waiting to see how my nightmare is handled. There is just too much to say about all the disappointments and un edible. Fish branzino that was dry, metallic tasting and tasteless in some weird tastless sauce after having been disappointed with the sandwich, I ordered because there was nothing inside. It was like a tiny sloppy Joe inside but mostly bread and very salty. When I said, put the sauce on the side they do it was mostly sauce, no meat horrible. He convinced me to order something else cause he ran out of he said. The short ribs sandwich meat. I guess that’s why it was all sauce and shreds of minuscule meat. It’s come to the point where the quality of food in a lot of restaurants has gone down. The prices have gone up and it’s not worth eating out anymore. most places I get better fish and citerella, I know it’s fresh. It taste delicious just plain. The texture is soft, flaky, wonderful fresh fish. It took him an hour to have this brought over from a few blocks away when fish takes only about five minutes to cook. I knew it was frozen as I grew up in sheep,sheaf bay and always got fish from the docks there since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. I know fresh fish. At compromises 90% of my protein as I’m not supposed to have meat./ Only go to places that are consistent and good and know there’s some quality to the food and how it’s prepared. It’s a shame Ruined my dinner. I had the dessert which was excellent the tiramisu. I’m sure that’s brought in from outside but it is very good better than a lot of places. It it So there I was with dessert for dinner. I have more to say, but I’m stopping now to see if I ever get a receipt that shows the amount I paid on my credit card I got A copy of what I ordered instead of a credit card receipt that shows what I paid was charged and the tip. I never got receipts like that from restaurants I got normal credit card receipts there was no amount nothing I asked for one receipt and then I asked for a credit, and I got neither, no more business here from me. It’s a quaint, charming place but we want good food when we’re paying for it. I can eat better at home. My cooking is good!. It’s just times I don’t feel like cooking. Not that broiling or sautéing a piece of fish, is cooking and steaming a vegetable . But I have health issues and I’m tired often. Wish I could’ve done more business with this place but I have to be able to eat the food and not be ripped off with it empty almost that looks like sloppy Joe from Subway decades ago! When I had this sandwich a few times before it was edible not a lot of meat but it was OK , I don’t know what the hell he did and if it’s true, he probably ran out of product and gave me nothing inside virtually. I said no sauce it was all sauce 75%. I would’ve liked to write up a nice write up. I hate writing negative things about places, but he he pushed me to order again , I couldn’t eat the fish that as I stated. I hope they get their act together. hopefully there are other dishes that are better there. But I’m not willing to try anymore. This place is amazing !!! From the minute we walked through the door to the moment we left everything was fantastic. We had reservations for 5 for Friday night, we were throwing a little going away celebration for one of our dear friends. They sat us in the back room which is beautifully decorated with art and funky chairs ( we loved the sparkly red one!!) the room was perfect for us because it was secluded from the main dining floor so it was like we had our own VIP area. The place is quaint and beautifully decorated, a great place for a date night !! They play great music and the vibe was just right. David the manager was awesome and accommodating and made sure we were happy from beginning to end !!! The place is great if you’re vegan!! They even had vegan drinks which was awesome because my friend is a vegan and it’s usually hard to come across a restaurant that serves a bunch of delicious vegan plates. We started off with a bunch of apps, the scallops are TO DIE FOR !! The hummus was also delicious, muscles also !!!! And you have to try the shrimp ajillo it’s delicious if you like something with a little bit of a spicy kick to it !!! I would also recommend the peach sangria, so refreshing and is served with fresh peach slices which was yummy!! For our main course I ordered the short ribs which were AHHHH MAYYYY ZING !! My friend ordered the steak which was fabulous also!!! Edgar the chef did such an amazing job with our food, we enjoyed every bite ! The manager David was always making sure our drinks were full and that we were having a great time!! For dessert we had a little bit of everything , chocolate brownie , crème brûlée , chocolate cake and Tiramisu and it was perfect!! We will definitely be returning. This place is a gem!!! Fantastic restaurant!!! Last night was my second visit - I was there one week ago. The maitre'd - Marthia - remembered us from the week before and came over to our table to greet us and chat. Here is my assessment based upon my two visits:

Ambiance - beautiful decor, nice music at just the right volume so as not to hamper conversation. Table spacing was not crowded. Layout and seating was very comfortable.

Drinks - nicely made - just the right amount of pour.

Food - excellent! My fiance and I have tried the fish tacos (twice) and the shrimp ajillo - very good dishes. The branzino, Coq Au Vin chicken (twice) and french chicken curry were outstanding. The wait staff accidently brought me the beef bourguignon last night - it looked and smelled so good I almost told them to leave it. The correct dish was replaced in under one minute. Definitely having the beef next time! For all dishes, the portions were more than enough - my fiance could not finish hers!

Dessert - cannot comment because apps and main courses were so filling!!! I usually don't order dessert as a matter of course anyway.

Prices - Here is the amazing part - for the quality of the food, the ambience of the restaurant and the location of the restaurant, I would say that the dinner was underpriced - extremely good value!!!
