I really want to give them five stars bc of the food, portions, and late night hours. The prices are a bit overpriced and change price every time I come here it seems. The Henny colada is what keeps me coming here and it’s availability when everything else is closed.
The customer service isn’t the best and the line flow is not clear, there are frantic ppl by the door looking for their bus or illegally parked car. The service or concern isn’t efficient or welcoming. Every time I come they are arguing with customers or not giving their all time best service. I feel like the places needs a totally new Strategy bc it doesn’t feel comfortable coming here bc it’s often hostile or the ppl working seem extremely exhausted and/or in a deep conversation in a different language, while ten ppl stand there looking at them. I’ve learned to just wait in the car for 12 min to avoid the awkward set up. There’s a side that is restaurant and side that is to go. I come here occasionally but it would be much more often if they made some improvements. The bathroom was unpleasant to use, there seems to be a lot of people working there and connected with a restaurant so not sure what it is so unkempt...
There is no sense of urgency here, you can literally end up waiting around for 45 min if you’re not on top of them about your order, not so customer friendly. If trying to figure something out, all of a sudden everyone is speaking a different language and I’m just like, wait what’s going on? It’s a bit not nice to do to ppl, standing around starving for 30-45 min and not understand what people are talking about regarding your food or just possibly a completely different topic. I asked for a side of sauce in the beginning, at the end they didn’t include it and then when I asked it took the lady so long to get the task done. Why? Bc she was chit chatting and laughing with her co-worker, I mean having the best conversation ever apparently as holding the bottle and cup, not pouring anything, giving no care that I asked four minutes ago and stood here forced to look at her bc she is the only thing between me and some sauce for my chicken. It’s like at least make the prices cheaper or add more if going to put ppl through it like that. I let her know that in the end and said it must be great to work here, it’s like a party, and she laughed and held and squeezed my hand...
Overall- food, availability, drinks and hours are most likely what is keeping people coming and I’m one of them, it’s the sacrifice you must endure due to the circumstances, factors, and variabilities of this business vs. others...
Read moreI love their food, out of the few Dominican spots in this neighborhood, they are the most consistent and the best. My only issues are 1. Lack of communication and 2. Their online menu is so small compared to everything they offer and they don’t update it when things run out.
I would love to be able to order other things being that I am also Dominican and am lowkey getting tired of the pepper steak and stew chicken. All the times I’ve tried to order the ‘Blue’ snapper they say they don’t have it, and I’m talking 3-4 instances. Only one type of mofongo is on their menu even though they offer all of them in the restaurant, the red snapper also isn’t on there. I mean if you’ve been there you know how much food they offer, their online menu isn’t even half of it. Don’t even get me started on the phone line. In the past, I would try and call to see what was available so that I could possibly order something that wasn’t on Uber or Grubhub. One time I called and asked if the snapper was available, they told me yes and I asked for the price so i could order something of the same value and just write in the instructions what it was actually for. Mind you I speak Spanish, so I thought everything was all good. But they ended up sending me a tilapia filet which is nowhere near the same price. Now they don’t even bother picking up the phone. Like at all.
I honestly would recommend this spot and do to all my friends because it’s very comfort food like and reminds me of my grandma but It’s 10x better in person. You dont get the full array if you order online, but trust me the...
Read moreLa Cabana Rodriguez is one of them ones. Huge poster board menus with pictures of the food with tape over the prices, worn out wood panel walls from the 90s, employees whose 2nd language is English, the beautiful aroma of authentic Dominican food, hand written signs informing you they don't take apple pay, etc. There was even a dude walking around trying to sell fake airpods, which is a telltale sign that a spot is gonna SLAP.
I walked in and got in the short line and ordered my homeostasis meal of a half chicken, sides of yellow rice and beans, and plantains. I also added a beef empanada, as when I see an empanada on a menu my hands are tired. All of this food for $18.06 is a STEAL.
I got my plate and took a seat in the back of the restaurant where there is ample seating and black film over the windows to keep the sun at bay.
This chicken was fantastic, although not top 5. I have it right at the top of my A-tier rankings for chicken spots, just barely missing S-tier. S-tier is special though, reserved for the Casa Adelas, Malecons, and Caravan Chickens of the world.
Sides were great and the beef empanada was special. The beef was so well seasoned and reminded me of how my Granny used to make it. Shout out to Granny!
As I'm doing research for this review, I realize they sell a Henny Colada. My only regret in life may be not getting this Henny Colada.
If I lived in the area, I'd be in here at least twice a week but unfortunately it's a PUSH from Lower Manhattan.
