Thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. I came with my mother and my aunt for brunch. The space here is beautifully decorated. It's larger than it looks with additional seating in the back and a private dining area upstairs. The service is excellent. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the food and was very attentive. For drinks, my aunt ordered a latte, my mom got the passion fruit lemonade and I tried the Lagano spritz with prosecco, peach liquor, blood orange syrup, basil and soda. I wasn't a big fan of the spritz. I was expecting something more refreshing and it had a strong taste to it. The lemonade was good though. My mom wanted to try the smoked salmon panini and I thought the chicken tower on the menu looked interesting for entrees, but we ended up just having tapas. We were so full from them that we didn't want entrees anymore. My mom wanted the spicy crab and lobster soup and the waitress offered to split the order so both my aunt and mom could try it. They loved it. The waitress offered me a spoon so I can try it as well, but I forgot to. We had so many other things on the table. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip which was served with pita bread. It was creamy and delicious. We also got the burrata pomodoro, the baby lamb chops (my favorite), the crab cake, and the crispy skin salmon. Everything was really delicious. They gave us an order of croquettes on the house which were really good. I don't know exactly what was in them, but definitely tasted truffle. We ordered more of the lamb chops since we all really enjoyed it. I also tried the red velvet cocktail with Bombay Sapphire gin, strawberry puree and prosecco which was really good and made up for the spritz that I didn't love. They had two desserts, the boem cake and the raspberry blackout cake and we tried them both. The blackout cake was really sweet and rich while the boem cake was more light. We preferred that one. Everything was great though and I definitely recommend going there if you're in Astoria. It's definitely a hidden gem.

Read moreI came here by recommendation. And I didn't know that Lagano Bar and Restaurant is located literally next to famous Kyklades. Interesting venue, looks warm, someone has invested a lot of time in arrangements and design. Good energy, a lot of potential, nice bar, although people could smile more, this is Hospitality Industry after all. Music selection is extremely nice, and they have a live music in the evening. Very original lighting fixtures. Clean & neat place. Kudos to the owner/manager (I suppose) who selected Sambonet silverware. Stylish people run this place, there is no doubt. Cute and agreable local place with Balkan food. Now about the food. I expected more from my appetizers (Lagano zakuska), spreads were much better than cold cuts (prosciutto should be better quality and sliced thinner). The main course (Karadjordjeva snicla) was better, a nice surprise were mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables (super tasty, perfectly executed) that go with this traditional stuffed pork breaded schnitzel (good serving size, excellent price). I liked the fact they serve Bosnian beer (Sarajevsko), but would like if they had some dark beer. They used to have German beer Weihenstephaner, but not anymore, which is sad since that is the oldest brewery in the world (since 1040). I have to try some other food next time in order to give an overall review of this place. Service was formal and overall ok for my taste, but it is interesting that my server did not ask not a single time how the food tasted and whether I liked it. Not so bad for the first time, but there is always space for improvements. Bench cushions (tables 1-3) should...
Read moreA welcomed and needed cuisine on Ditmars. This tapas spot, I feel it is still trying to figure out it's identity with bright lights and blasting edm music like a club when you first walk in. As you walk to the back, it feels like a few different spaces that doesn't fit well together, but can stand alone on their own.
I'd recommend reserving the front of you want to eat and get that trendy club vibe, the back 1st floor with a group of friends that want to talk, or upstairs for a more intimate night out with a date.
As far as the food, I'm really excited to try their next revamped menu of items. The tapas that we ordered were good, but nothing I would have to go back for.
Food: Octopus: This was the best dish. Tasty and cooked perfectly.
Spinach dip: Recommended skipping. It was like a mix of taziki, cream cheese, and dinner chopped spinach. Cold, super thick, and heavy.
Chicken: It was okay, but there wasn't much unique flavor that would warrent to order it again
Paprika cheese: super tasty, wish there's was more of it as it was just a tiny cube.
Shitako peppers: my go to dish at any place, it was bland. Not much flavor as I had hopped.
The service was great. The people were polite.
One small grip was we had to pay in cash because they didn't have a credit card machine. They wanted us to scan a QR code and add everything in manually. We couldn't get it to work.
Overall, it's worth a try and hopefully as they are around a bit longer the food will evolve with even more...
