The cake may be great , but the female staff that work there need to take some serious lessons in " Customer Service." They are some of the rudest & laziest bunch of employees, you'll ever encounter. Today I went into the Lex Ave, location in East Harlem to pick up my pre-ordered, disturbing the four female employees who were all glued to their cellphones. As the one, very rude women in a pink t-shirt and a red plastic hair cap was packing the cake, I noticed one in the glass case with writing on it. So I asked her if she could write " Happy Birthday " on my cake ? She quite rudely refused and told me that I should have asked for that, when I ordered the cake. I didn't question her decision as now, I just wanted to pay and go back to work. Plus the writing on the cake was not all that good and looked like the color of excrement anyway. Maybe C- diff color would be a proper description. My cake was $15.50 and I pay with a $50 bill. She tells me she has no change and has to go outside to get some. After 6 to 7 minutes she returns with an attitude and slaps down a $20 bill on the counter and says "here" and then goes into the register to get the rest of my change 14 dollar bills, even though I saw $5 bills in her hand when she came in with the change. What kind of a business does not have change or a cash flow? Maybe I'm the wrong color ( White) to visit this this location at 1553 Lexington Ave, but please don't treat me differently because of my race. I've worked many years in Customer Service and I would never treat anybody the way I was treated today. I will never return to this location again, even though we love Lloyd's cakes. Word of advice to the gentleman that owns this place, get rid of these miserable lazy women and hire some courteous employees who actually treat customers with the respect they deserve or your business will go...
Read moreThis is BY FAR the best carrot cake I have EVER had! I made a mistake and accidentally mixed up the days and showed up a day earlier than I was supposed to in order to collect my cake order. When I walked into the bakery the smell was SOOOO AMAZING that I asked the gentleman at the cash register what that smell was and he replied: “That’s the carrot cake”. I IMMEDIATELY ordered ANOTHER carrot cake (I actually ordered this one without icing because the smell was so enticing that I had to make sure that my taste buds got the full experience and BOY OH BOY THIS WAS THE BEST CARROT CAKE THAT I HAVE EVER HAD!). Take it from me - I’m a true southern boy and my grandmother is known for her amazing cakes throughout the community, so I’m not at all easily impressed when it comes to baked goods, especially cake, because she has set the bar so high. But THIS CAKE?! This is better than I ever dreamed carrot cakes could even taste! By far the best dessert I’ve had since moving to the city a few years ago. I’m DEFINITELY adding this cake to my rotation and STRONGLY advise anyone and everyone reading this review or wondering where they should get a cake: GET THE CARROT CAKE FROM LLOYD’S! It will blow your mind! Take it from me - I’m a grown man and all I could do when I took my first bite of this cake was smile and giggle. It’s THAT delicious! I never imagined any cake would ever taste this incredible! I have found my new go-to dessert! Definitely five star quality! To say I’m impressed would be an understatement- this cake is like none other! EXTREMELY moist, so rich (without being too rich) and definitely the best thing I’ve eaten since I moved...
Read moreI love carrot cake so there was no way I was going to miss this stop at Lloyd's. Our first couple of bites seemed promising but overall their carrot cake was average at best. We ordered a slice with nuts and raisins. The cake is very moist and dense which I loved. And I always love nuts in my carrot cake for texture. But there wasn't much complexity in the flavor. There wasn't much spice to it, a bit plain though not overly sweet. The cream cheese was a a little off ratio to the thickness of the cake, thought it was good and pretty sweet. I also ordered a German Chocolate cake slice and that was a total miss. It was just as thick and dense as the carrot cake slice but so dry. If there was more frosting perhaps in the middle, that might have helped, but the icing was a bit sparse as well. Customer service in the store was transactional, but standing right outside was a man who was friendly and said, "It's so good right?" Appreciated his warmth and friendliness though unsure if he was a customer or affiliated to the store.
There are a few other cake options to choose from and you can buy by the slice or whole.
Plenty of people love Lloyd's so they must be doing something right. I just didn't love it as much as I...
