The tipping experience was weird since they bothered to ask for tip without bothing to tell me there's no seating at first. In fact, they didn't tell me anything. Just silence, then while I waited for my order I would realize I selected the "15% tip" button at their point-of-sale terminal for no service. In fact, when I picked up my order I found out that I was so generous that I also gave NYC Tax 8.875% a 15% tip as well, so effectively bumping my tip for no service up to 16.3% of the total. Gotta think about supporting the lilvelyhood of NYC Tax as well. Apparently it's being paid below a liveable wage, who knew. I didn't, even though I tipped Mr. Tax. Also the restaurant can't really play innocent because they've been at this for over a decade at this point.
No seating at least resolves the previous issue I encountered years ago when I came to the horrific realization that the water carafes were all filthy around the neck with bio growth from all the sunshine received at the window-facing seating.
For the chicken option, the broth was nice and thick, noodle you need a little wiggle to untangle. The meat was barely existant. Maybe like a quarter of a wing if I'm being generous. Well, I am generous apparently. Part of me is holding on to the nostalgia of my first mokbar experience about a decade ago, before I noticed the bio growth on the carafes, and all my friends had mediocre opinions of this place. So, I don't dislike their food. One positive is that much shorter line and faster service than Very Fresh Noodles. It seems like they worked really hard to earn my...
Read moreI came here last weekend (Sunday) when Fresh Noodles ran out of beef.. and noodles. It was about a 15 minute wait, and we were seated in the "private room" in the back. My friends and I ordered several things...
I, myself, ordered the classic ramen, with a poached egg. It was okay. I wasn't blown away by it, but it definitely filled me up. With regards to a poached egg? Meh. I think I would've preferred to have soft boiled egg instead. It was interesting, because my friend was asking for substitutes -- she isn't a big fan of raw food, nor does she really like anything TOO spicy -- and they kept on saying that we weren't allowed for substitutes of food... So I found that to be kind of disappointing.
We also ordered ourselves some tteokboki -- mildly spicy. My friend said it was still too spicy for her (but it might be her spicy tolerance). I actually really liked this dish. The tteokboki had a bit of a crunchiness to them because of the stone bowl, which I loved. I would definitely recommend this.
Service was okay. At the end of the evening, they forgot to put our second order of food/drinks onto the same bill that we previously had... As good citizens, we told them about it.
Would I come back here? Maybe. I'm curious of the other dishes that they have here. However, not the first place I would go to if I was in...
Read moreI have a sesame allergy and didn’t realize this was a Korean ramen spot. I tend to stay away from Korean food, because sesame is used heavily in the cuisine. The staff told me what to stay away from, which was a great help. Because of that and some dietary restrictions from lent, I was unable to have ramen, which is what I really wanted. I chose the curry chicken katsu saucy dish. They give you an option of noodles or rice, so I definitely took the noodle option. Im So glad I did. When they say saucy dish, they mean it! There was plenty of sauce and it was almost like eating a bowl of ramen anyway. The flavors were really nice and the chicken nice and crispy. I went with my cousin and we shared some kimchi. We had the traditional kimchi, garlic chives, and cucumber. I tried the first 2. It was my first time eating kimchi and I really enjoyed it. The flavors were vibrant and fresh. I would definitely recommend this place. I’m already plotting my next excursion as I eat my leftovers...
