I had one of the worst customer experiences here. I was charged $20 for a single coffee, and when I raised the issue, the barista dismissed me repeatedly, made me wait over 15 minutes, and ignored me so completely it felt like I was talking to a wall. At one point, he even told me I was lying.
The difference in treatment was stark: my friend, who is white-passing, was met with warmth and kindness, while I was met with rudeness, disbelief, and hostility. After finally speaking to me, he dismissed me with a disgusting look and told me to “come back after we check security footage.” I eventually got the correct change, but only four hours later. I literally had to come back after my busy day to solve this issue, cuz he was making me feel crazy as if I was imagining the whole thing. But even my friend witnessed me handing him a $20 bill, and there was no way I was gonna spend $20 on a singular iced black coffee.
What was meant to be the highlight of my day ended up leaving a sour taste. I’ve made countless viral TikToks celebrating Mattos cafés before, but after this experience, I’ll never step foot in a Matto again. There’s better cafes in the area. And matto, do better with ur customer service. It was giving...
Read moreI came here at 3:30 today on a Sunday and have been waiting 15 minutes for a coffee now. Still waiting. There is only 1 girl working on a Sunday. Horrible way to run a business. The girl took 5 minutes to even take my order because she was focused on to go orders instead. You can't put only 1 girl on on a day where everybody is off of work. I waited an additional minimum 12 minutes for our order to be ready. She messed up everybody's order in front of me and mine too. I ordered 2 dirty Chai aka with espresso and definitely got charged for it because 2 dirty chais were over $13 . I told her there was no espresso in it and she dropped the tiniest amount of espresso in it , not even a full shot of espresso. Essentially I just wasted 20 minutes of my life on not a coffee. I give her props though because she was still smiling even though she was getting crushed. If I were her with all those to go orders plus a line of people staring at me I would have walked...
Read moreI absolutely love this place. It's a good half hour walk from where I live insuring that I get my exercise. Just about every item in this Italian-style coffee shop costs $2.50 or $2.00 if you order on line. An egg croissant with a slice of avacado can be had at the above price as can all the other tempting delights they offer. I go there so often that I now know all the staff that work there and they are as delightful as the food they serve. I usually get a cappuccino with almond milk and enjoy it out side at one of the tables in front of the store on Lexington Ave and watch the...
