Went there to have some snacks. Ordered Mughlai and Kababs and later I asked the server if they have Kala Bhuna to which he replied yes so i ordered for takeaway. After I came back home and opened the pack i see that it was just a regular beef curry. My family regularly buys from Jackson Heights and we have had had them since a long time and know how it looks like and taste at most places. I called the place and a lady answers and i tell her everything and she apologized since the beef curry is cheaper so they can refund us the extra money, but after telling her about the server and when she asked him he refused to accept that he gave a different dish. Only solution they could give me was to come back with it so they can check or if we have eaten eat then only the extra refund for different dish. My mother was hungry so she had to eat some of it but it taste not as good as even a regular beef curry. My home is an hour from there so how can i even go back to fix this? So at best they can refund me the extra price only and not refund for the wrong order. The guy should take responsibility for his action but i can hear from the phone that he said he knows what he gave and wont accept that he gave wrong order making me sound like a liar. If this is Kalabhuna then Im a fool for even ordering it from there. Taste and looks both are bad for...
Read moreI often go here with my friends in the morning for breakfast, and the chicken samosas we get each time are out of this world. They are crispy, juicy, and well seasoned, and are a great deal for just $1.50. We also get their cha sometimes and it is creamy, rich, well spiced, and delicious, also for just $1.50. Additionally, the service is great, and when ordering to go, you can expect your samosa to be ready within 30 seconds. Since we started going regularly, we have even received free rasgulla, sodas, and even received small discounts. The one problem I have is hygiene, as the bathrooms are not the cleanest and are quite small, but besides that, I love this place. Would highly suggest recommend if you are ever at 74 St-Broadway, especially since there is an exit from the station that leads you straight in front of the restaurant. Update: Today my friends and I brought 10 people to join us for samosas in the morning. We had a great time with great service, and the waiter brought us free jalebi for everyone. On top of that, we tried to leave a small tip and they refused. আপনাকে...
Read moreFood Review: Pakistani Duck Meat Curry
Just when I thought I had tried every kind of curry, I came across the rare “Duck Meat Curry” at a small shop in Jackson Heights.
The smaller kebab shops on the side streets tend to have the more exotic dishes and are much more affordable than your average Manhattan spot because 1) they are more local and authentic - you won’t see any tourists come here and 2) my personal theory is that they enjoy being a bit more creative instead of being 100% profit driven. Maybe it’s the lower rents/taxes/staff outlay that allow them to take this risk? I think their reputational / street cred are on the line too, with Jackson Heights being a pretty small community
The curry was very heavy and the duck was filled with lots of fat and bones - a hefty dish for sure
They had over 8 different kinds of biryanis, from beef, chicken, goat, “house special”, etc.!
