Been in search of a good replacement for Charley Street (refined sugar free Australian cafe) since it closed. This place looks quite similar. We ordered all the mushroom dishes: soup, farro mushroom bowl with miso sesame dressing and the mushroom/labneh toast. They were all good especially the bowl which had a great variety of veggies and the dressing was nicely balanced. We put the kimchi on the side as they were not sure if there is sugar added. The mushroom toast was ok wish they use wild mushroom not just cremini. The soup was lovely very creamy and had good umami. I like that they serve coffee/beverages in real cups for people dining in, better for the environment and great for the vibe! Wish they make all the food without refined sugar.

the obvious observation is the great location and crowd who goes here…but for coffee snobs this may be the best place to get great single origins and natural process in lower Manhattan, definitely in the West Village and the western part of Soho. Additionally, they offer multiple espresso choices, which is very hard to find in the city, and even in Brooklyn. A final, very nice touch was the customer service. I had asked about the espresso choices, and chose one, but when my latte came out, the barista included a free shot of their natural process espresso. The gesture was noticed. Top 5% coffee place I’ve been to and I’ve left probably a couple of dozen reviews of places across many cities and states.

tldr: try an iced cortado, no lid, no straw, and you’ll see steam rise off the cubes’ edges *chef’s kiss* i love how the ice melts here. one of my friends is also in this love affair. if you like a doughy scone, these may suit you more than me. i like the breakfast sandwich! they also have vegan cookies! they make chocolate chip with canola oil - no butter, no eggs!¡ i’m still learning vegan versions of things so feeling green to review such matters. tmi, for those going out of their way: i’m lactose and espresso-sensitive, but it’s still worth it to me to get cow’s milk in the espresso drinks. i really enjoy the iced lavender matcha too! but note the syrup can change from time to time!

I have a few go-to spots in the West Village and Merriweather is hands down my go-to for cappuccinos and the like. I've tried every spot within a half a mile radius and nowhere else compares. And I am really picky about my caps. I once (maybe twice) made a barista make me a cappuccino 3x until I gave up and threw it in the garbage and walked out of the place (note: I did pay for it, I just couldn't drink it). This was obviously not at Merriweather I just like adding anecdotes.

I've pretty much tried everything on the menu there and nothing disappoints. My favorite breakfast is the Merriweather Morning Sandwich with Sourdough bread and bacon substitution, for lunch sandwiches, I like the Saigon Sanga, the BLAT, the Pesto sandwiches. The salads are good, my go to is the Miso Mushroom Faro bowl, and the Kale Kombucha salad (I'm not a fan of kale but this one's good!).

And what can I say about the wonderful staff there? I have never been greeted with less than a smile even on the busiest of days where they're completely out of their minds with orders. They're just fun and friendly people who brighten your mornings and feed you caffeine and goodies to help you get on with whatever chaos the day brings at work.

Google is asking about ambience. I mean, what can you say about ambiance at a popular and busy small coffee breakfast and lunch spot? It's a little tight at times when they're crazy busy but it's never bothered me. I usually do take out but I've eaten there before and it's fine. Kitchen's clean, everything is in order. There is outdoor seating by the way so if inside gets too crowded, you have another option.

So yeah, more or less a daily customer for 2+ years, sometimes multiple times a day. Food and beverage is consistent. Staff is...

If you don’t like ketchup on eggs, beware the Merriweather! It’s smothered in ketchup-y sauce.

I didn’t know their “homemade harissa” is basically ketchup, bbq, and hot sauce all mixed together. Ketchup/bbq/vinegar on eggs isn’t everybody’s thing!

I wish I would have known because I find it a bit gross. All the way gross. Did not eat it.

All else was fine. Fresh avocado, decent prosciutto, decent bread, decent coffee. I wouldn’t say don’t go. I’m just mad about the ketchup sauce. Warn a lady.

UPDATE: (1 year later the “infamous non-ketchup ketchup-tasting harissa” is still on the sandwich and it ruined breakfast again. Still no change of warning on the menu and yes I did forget. Sigh.)

This is a group breakfast preorder each time we dine with you. There is no taking it back to the kitchen when I am told to order from here. If it doesn’t list it on the menu, I don’t know it’s on there. (Still doesn’t say there’s a ketchup-esque sauce on there.)

To the owners, I’m not alone in gagging at ketchup-tasting things on eggs. Please list that there’s a “tomato based vinegar sauce” … or something? List the ingredients of the special sauce on the ordering menu please. At least some of them. Keep your...

Merriweather Coffee + Kitchen is the kind of place that instantly lifts your mood. The interior is bright, welcoming, and filled with natural light think clean lines, greenery, and a calming color palette that makes you want to linger. It strikes a perfect balance between casual and elevated, making it ideal for a solo coffee run or a relaxed brunch with friends. The overall vibe is laid-back and friendly, with staff who are genuinely warm and attentive.

I ordered their flat white and the smashed avocado toast with poached eggs, and both exceeded expectations. The coffee was smooth and well-balanced, while the toast was generously portioned and bursting with freshness. The attention to detail from the plating to the flavors shows their commitment to quality. Merriweather isn’t just another trendy café; it’s a thoughtfully curated space with great food, great coffee, and an atmosphere that keeps you...
