Stepping into Mille-feuille feels like stepping into a charming Parisian corner of Manhattan—intimate, warm, and full of the kind of authenticity that only comes from doing things exceptionally well. From the moment we walked through the door, greeted with a glowing smile and heartfelt "hello" from Mounia, the experience was exceptional. Mounia was not only warm and welcoming, but her grace and attentiveness were unmatched—especially with my toddler daughter, whom she treated with the utmost kindness and care. It’s rare to find someone so professional and genuine. Her hospitality alone is enough to bring you back, but thankfully, the food and coffee elevate the experience to unforgettable.
Let’s start with the latte. I ordered mine with no sugar, no syrups—just pure, expertly crafted espresso and milk—and it was absolute perfection. I believe they use Colombian coffee beans, and the result is a rich, smooth flavor that’s bold without bitterness and delicate without being bland.
And then came the macarons—oh, the macarons. If you’ve ever had a macaron that was too chewy or too sweet, Mille-feuille will make you forget all about them. These were textbook perfect: a feather-light shell with a whisper of crispness giving way to a melt-in-your-mouth interior, delicately flavored and beautifully balanced. A true homage to the French classic.
The almond croissant was another standout. The croissant itself had the ideal golden flakiness, and the almond filling was just the right amount—not too heavy, not too sparse. The ratio was so spot-on, it felt like every bite was designed to be the perfect one.
And the chocolate chip cookie? Heavenly. Studded with dark chocolate, it was gloriously gooey in the middle, while the edges were just the right level of crisp. The quality of the chocolate and the balance of textures made it feel both nostalgic and elevated.
The space is boutique and cozy, with a few bar-style seats in the front and some intimate tables tucked into the back. French music plays softly in the background, adding to the charm. There’s even Wi-Fi, making it a lovely spot to pause with a pastry and a laptop or a friend.
All in all, Mille-feuille is one of the best bakeries I’ve visited in Manhattan. It’s a rare place that marries craft with kindness, beauty with substance. Whether you're popping in for a quick treat or settling in for a slower morning, you’ll leave feeling nourished in every sense of the word. I can’t...
Read moreHaving spent almost a year in Paris in addition to multiple summers, I came back to the US craving French pastries. Years ago I said: there is no proper croissant in the US. This bakery just affirmed my belief. Great that you use Valrhona chocolate and Kusmi, but good ingredients are but the first step in the making of good pastries. I’ve tasted pastries made in Ritz Paris, gosh they are good and worth their double-digit price. But honestly, if I compare Ritz pastry to Cadillac, then I can’t even rank yours above the cheapest Honda. Your quality is similar to that of the popular Korean bakery Paris Baguette (i.e. not bad, above average outside France). However, I won’t pay more than one euro for your fancy croissant in Paris, as it fails to live up to the level of some premium supermarket bakeries in Paris. I can’t believe I paid 4-5 times Parisien price for the pastries chez Mille-Feuille. But I do applaud the good service.
This shop will not be able to survive French competition even at the level of a small town— yet for the regrettably unsophisticated taste here and driven by some pompous marketing, it perhaps will survive and thrive, just as Starbucks dominates the world with its mediocre coffee...
Je doute que votre expérience à Ritz soit vraie. Je devrai continuer à chercher la meilleure boulangerie à New York en vous souhaitant...
Read more(Based on lack of service only) Happened to be in the area (9/17 11:30am) and read good things so dropped by for a latte. Server was on the phone and barely acknowledged me. Didn’t stop talking and just stood by the register & stared at me. I asked for a latte and she turned around - all the while talking - and sloooooowly started moving around the machine, more interested in talking than actually making my drink. I tried asking if I could get a mug vs paper but could not get her attention. She hadn’t actually started making me drink yet - still talking. Conversation was in French so don’t know what it was about but either way I have been in customer service positions & all she had to do is either ask me or the person on the phone to please hold a moment. Got frustrated & walked out which got her attention (drink still wasn’t being made). She looked at me in disbelief...
