I really wanted to like this place more but I just didn't. We went one day after work for drinks and an early dinner it was pretty empty around 4. The menu is a mashup of things, from brunch items all day to sandwiches, Chicken and Waffles, burgers and things like that.
The tables are way too small and there is really nowhere to put your bags. The decor is retro style which was very cute.
My friends and I usually always get a bunch of things to share but this time we only shared appetizers because my friend felt like having brunch and I didn't. We ordered mac & cheese and some buffalo wings. The mac & cheese was cheesy and creamy but it had huge pieces of what I think was bacon can't remember if it was bacon or smoked ham. The wings were cooked very well, nice and crisp and the spice level was not too the point that you burn your mouth and don't enjoy.
I was really disappointed with my drink. I guess it was my fault for not reading carefully but we ordered the punch pouch. I really didn't read that at all or I wouldn't have ordered it. It was basically a caprisun that they cut a slit into with a tiny bit of Malibu rum and a lemon wedge for $8. C'mon people really?? You get those caprisuns for like .25 cent each when you buy wholesale or even at BJ's. I get the whole retro theme but this is just pushing it. Those caprisuns are probably only like 6 ounces and I had to ask if it had rum in it cause it tasted like juice.
On to the food. I ordered the chicken and waffles and not friend for some Texas style eggs Benedict. Her food looked like the whole kitchen sink on a plate. But she said it was good and sometimes things don't look great but are. My chicken and waffles were a disappointment. But I guess that's because I've had really good chicken and waffles before and i'm probably comparing. First of all it was served with boneless chicken breast. I'm not a fan of my chicken & waffles like this. Although the chicken was well seasoned and crispy plus two very huge pieces of chicken I just prefer the chicken on the bone because it has much more flavor. I'm so glad the waitress asked if I wanted the sauces on the side too because the sauces weren't good. One was straight up honey but it was supposed to be spicy honey, the other was a cheese sauce and the last was gravy. The waffle itself has again those huge chunks of bacon baked right in and it was soggy.
Service was just ok. I had to ask for a knife and they seemed to have forgotten about us when a huge party walked in. They never asked if we wanted another drink although I wouldn't have ordered another but the point is go ask.

Read moreLet me preface this by saying that we came here during brunch time (10AM) on a weekend, which certainly factors into things). However, I’ve been to other places during weekend brunch time and this experience did NOT stack up.
We got seated pretty much straight away. It’s a small place, but nice. However, the waitress did not check in on us for over 15 minutes. She then came to take our order. We asked for water and coffee. The table next to us asked for limes for their water. The waitress kept returning to the table next to us and they got limes for their waters before we got our waters. At this point, it’s been another 20-30 minutes. Our appetizer came. We asked the guy who brought it out to us for water. The waitress comes back to our area to check on the table next to us. It’s starting to look like we will have dry January in May.
I went inside to ask for water and 5-10 minutes later, the waitress comes out, sets the waters down, and rushes away without a word. No apology, no response when we thanked her, nothing.
Our entrees finally arrived. The fries have cooled down, we didn’t have utensils. We still didn’t have coffee. The home fries were very oily and had also cooled down. The breakfast sandwiches themselves were just okay, nothing I would pay more than $5 to eat again.
We asked her again for coffee as she brought out utensils. Finally, it arrives. It’s burnt. Very notably so.
Oh and my milkshake never arrived lollll. But they did try to sneak it onto the receipt (the woman who dropped our bill off RAN away immediately but I chased her down to change it).
To add insult to injury, one of the only 2 toilets was clogged.
To the business-owners: please do better. Clearly, there is not enough manpower to go around and yeah, the waitress was rude, and the rest of the staff was dismissive but if they’re so overworked, of course morale will be low and of course they won’t care about their jobs. Doesn’t excuse the rudeness and horrific service, but something...
Read moreOne of my biggest dissapoitments lately. And I give 2 stars very, very rare! Like a person who is personally involved in the Hospitality Industry, I understand that all of us could have a bad day. But in this review, I will tackle bases of this industry. We came here based on good reviews (4,4) on Monday morning, for breakfast. To make this review short, me and my friend simply did not feel well and welcome over there. Furthermore, even the food was below average: served old lettuce with dark ends, VERY stale bun (falling apart when you bite), undercooked homemade potatoes, and the coffee served warm but not hot, with a 2 straws (?) instead of a tea spoon (I had to ask for it and I received a cold reaction). Suprisingly, the service was quite bad as well. We were not even greeted with a simple "hello" or "good morning". Those 2 girls in the shift were definately not in a mood. They even moved one couple next to us so a delivery guy can finish his delivery of groceries for the restaurant (?!?!). Everything was happening in front of us, with a huge noise, and that couple stopped eating their breakfast. Our order taker (I avoid to use words server or waitress intentionally) ask us only "What can I get you?" and "Are you done?". They did not even checked us if everything is ok with the food. We were very hungry and didn't want to complain (we rarely do that, we just do not come anymore). In my humble opinion, the only reason why they are busy is because this venue has a good location. Although I always try to support local business, especially in Astoria, there are much better options in the neighborhood. We were kind and left the tip, but we both agreed we are not...
