I recently completed a week-long training at NY Bartending and am thrilled to share my positive experience.
Bryan is a fantastic and intelligent instructor. His wit, vivacity, and informative approach make learning both enjoyable and effective. He is highly patient, especially with curious and serious learners. (I deal with anxiety & ADHD, and I was able to grasp everything smooth and easily, he answered all the questions I asked effortlessly!)
Having been a previous student in 2013, I contacted Bryan a few weeks ago in hopes of joining for a refresher course, as I haven’t been behind a bar for the past decade. In these challenging times, I wanted to retrain and jump back into the bartending job market this summer. Bryan graciously invited me to join the training for a week.
Bryan's teaching style is highly descriptive and methodical. He steadily covers the curriculum, ensuring all material is well understood. His thorough knowledge of alcohol, wine, beer, and the service industry is immense. I genuinely learned more during this training than during my first experience in 2013, under different ownership.
One of the standout features of the training is the access to a separate real bar/lounge. By the middle to end of the week, Bryan allows students to practice behind a real bar with a variety of bottles and equipment. This practical experience was invaluable and not available during my initial training. It significantly helped minimize my anxiety and boosted my confidence.
At the end of the week, students are allowed to invite a friend to the lounge area and make them a drink from scratch. My best friend loved the Boulevardier I made her, and I enjoyed making a Margarita for myself!
Bryan provides a comprehensive booklet covering recipes and alcohol knowledge, sample resumes, insider tips and tricks for getting hired quickly, and information on obtaining TIPS and Food Handlers certification. He is incredibly generous with his knowledge, ensuring students have all the information they need.
I highly recommend attending NY Bartending. The experience is exceptional and well worth the cost. If you're considering it, just do it—you...
Read moreI decided to give bartending a try but I didn't know where to start. I looked up online what was the best choice of school to learn. NYBS was my first option given to me and so I went with it. I made an appointment with a lady at the front desk. She was informative and helpful. As I took the tour I already knew this was the school for me. I picked the 2 weeks morning class with instructor Erika. She is one of the best bartender that New York has to offer or even in the world. She broke it down to real life example and professionalism of being a bartender. The fundamentals of being a mixologist/Bartender was such a great learning experience. You get hands on experience on holding the bottle to knowing how to pour the right amount. Knowing the varieties of liquors, liqueur and garnishments. I thoroughly enjoyed my stayed there.
You will need to take 2 test. Part one is the written and Part two is the Practical exam. On the day of my tour to the school I got to see students on their finals day practicing for their practical exam. My first impression was overwhelming because of the amount of drinks they had to make in 6 minutes. However I digress making 16 drinks in 6 minutes is not hard at all. When I first started it sounded difficult and intimidating but it's not! You are prep little by little and you study along the way. I studied using index cards and it was extremely helpful. By the time the practical exam was near I was confident on making 100+ drinks with no problem.
Practice makes perfect!
If you want to become a bartender and want to gain knowledge then NYBS is the place for you! I don't regret a single penny and you won't either. Enjoy your stay and maybe one day you see me passing by because they also provide help on job placement and resume. Oh and did I mention that once you graduate you can come back anytime to take the course again for FREE! Your skills and knowledge will...
Read moreI don't even know where to begin! My experience at New York Bartending School completely surpassed my expectations! I was nervous at first, not knowing completely what to expect...would it be boring? are the teachers nice? will i actually leave there prepared for work in a real bar? Is this really worth all the money I spent? And i found that it was beyond amazing! The teacher/owner Brian was so knowledgeable and so patient and encouraging at all times. He was super funny and made the classes seem easy and fun! He also challenged us, so once the class was over we ALL felt prepared and were legitmate bartenders! It is definitely worth the money, the class is super thorough, you learn everything from memorizing all classic cocktails, to how liquors are made, to how to pour wines, to even gaining free a TIPS certification in class--Which all bartenders should have before working! They even let you train in a real bar after graduating to get real life experience! I already thought I got my moneys worth when I graduated, but I REALLY knew once I started working in a real bar. With resume help and everything from the school, I was able to land a great job within a month of graduating ( and I didnt really start looking until 2 weeks after) and once I secured my position, I realized just how useful the class was. Everything I learned came back to me naturally and I found myself standing out among even the most seasoned bartenders who even ask me questions from time to time! Seasoned bartenders rarely brush up on their skills, so having all that fresh knowledge really set me apart! I love New York Bartending School! It's not only a school-- its really a membership because even after graduating I can still go back to the school anytime for free to brush up on my skills. I dont think anything beats that! If your debating--stop and just go check out one of their classes! You...
