The Church is very beautiful, the prayers there are great but as a devoted Catholic , I am extremely disappointed in the way the 2 sacristans/helpers of the 1st Friday mass behave towards black people! Yes I said it: they are racists toward black in the way they look and talk to you!!! Especially the one with grey hair and glasses who acts has if he owns the place and knows people relationship with God!!! He is racist, rude and disrespectful while addressing a black person!! As a local guide I am very unhappy to put this kind of review but one has to speak the truth. The other one who is Spanish too with long black hair acts as if he is there to conciliate but at the end he is a passive disrespectful person. I saw non-black having some kind of behavior and none of them said anything about it but once a black person does it, he will humiliate them by the way he approaches and addresses them in front of every body. Those are the kind of people making other go away from our Catholic Church which is a shame. Serving the Lord doesn't give you any right in judging the way others worship. I wish I could meet the pastor so he would train them on being better church helper instead of what they do. May God...
Read moreHoly Innocents is one of the most important churches I have ever visited. It is where I attended my first High Mass in the Extraordinary Form, along with my dear, late friend Matthew Pecorino. It was on the Assumption, which is my favourite feast (owing to my devotion to Our Lady from growing up in a Marian parish). Matt was a full head shorter than I, and I remember how he tried to hold up his Missal so I could follow along during the chants, but as I had four years' experience of Gregoian chant from high school, I kept staring straight ahead as we went! Additionally, I have dedicated my life to the protection of the unborn — and their mothers — and so the Holy Innocents themselves are also dear to my heart. This parish is very, very special, as well as conveniently located in the heart of Midtown. Even if you are not Catholic, or you are Catholic but prefer to worship in the vernacular (and I typically do), treat yourself to a Traditional Latin Mass here at least once. It's the only church in town where you can do so every day of the week! Holy Innocents, martyrs in deed but not will,...
Read moreBeautiful facade, but I can't understand why a Catholic church should be so dark & dusty. It just reflects poorly on everyone who frequents the place, just like with a personal abode. I'm not saying it's Christ's fault, because He may not even go there...everyone I've spoken to there has an attitude like they "know how the Catholic faith" should be practiced...really? Where did they get it from? Most American Latin Mass supporters are essentially thieves who thought they should steal traditions from other nations and parade them around to make themselves "look better". They're unbelievably hypocritical. I recently spoke with a young African woman who only immigrated to the USA 8 years ago, and started going to the Latin Mass 2 years ago. She seriously thought she was going to tell me that it's "the right way to say Mass". She'd be better off teaching me the right way to swing from trees. I'm not kidding, lol. Who do these people think...
