I think it is over 10 years that I have been a member and I was surprised to read some of the negative reviews. Perhaps what I write below will help you in deciding whether or not to join
a) PlaybyPlay is not responsible for the content of their shows listed. It is super easy to do research on almost any show - there is a website called ShowScore that provides user reviews of even some of the most obscure shows
b) As an addendum to A - I have seen literally the worst shows in my life (Golf - The Musical) and 3 of the best shows of my life, and never would have seen any if not for Play by Play.
c)You will get the gammut of shows, from one man plays in a 20 person theater to Broadway shows that are not selling out and need to have seats filled. Plenty of dance and music at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, to even getting baseball, basketball and professional wrestling tickets
d) MOST IMPORTANTLY - with prices of Broadway and even off Broadway shows being ridiculous, SEEING JUST ONE SHOW WITH A FRIEND WILL OFTEN PAY FOR YOUR MEMBERSHIP
E) They are VERY responsive and helpful. They do have rules, which is what has allowed them to stay in business for as long as they have. They are easy to adhere to, and I can personally state that I was a victim of being a no-show, and the next day $40 was taken out of my account - of course I complained, but the rules are there in black and white, in addition to any rules that might apply at the venue (ie. Food or drink minimums)
Finally, if you are joining to get primo seats for Wicked or Hamilton, this is not for you. If you have an open mind and are a little adventurous, each show costs just $5, which makes it a risk free proposition to see some shows you will never forget (both in a good and bad way). I can assure you that each day you log on - there will be at least 20 to pick from - especially ...
Read moreI have been a member for several years and this is a very difficult company to deal with. Their contact of choice is email and despite what you write you are given a generic response that generally does not apply to the question asked or comment made. Said emails are never signed by anyone and apparently there is no manager in charge (this is based on the days when they answered their phone - no manger available). The responses on their Google post card state that they have 60 to 100 shows at a time - is false - never in a decade has there been that many shows listed. The caliber of the shows is subjective, there are at times great shows, but, there is a lot of off-off-Broadway. Good luck if you have a question as it will most likely not be answered. It is more than understandable why people sought the BBB - according to the BBB records - PBP never responded. Would not recommend...
Read moreI have used play by play now for about 2 months and it has totally enhanced my life. I see many plays each week and have enjoyed every play I have seen so far. I love how there is such a large variety to choose from including Broadway, off-Broadway, and off-off-Broadway. I feel so much more well cultured now, and have learned that I truly adore going to shows. I like how they update the site many times each hour during working hours, and there is always a helpful attendant to pick up the phone if I have any questions. Also, when I go to pick up my tickets they are always there waiting for me at the box office or pick up location. The seats have always been great and it is very easy to put more money into your account online. Honestly, they couldn't make it any easier to see plays, and usually at...
