Food was decent. However, they never explained about automatic tip charge -which is 18%, and a server sort of hurried me to sign on the receipt. Not really knowing which item is charged how much, I just calculated tips and wrote down the number. However, it felt really weird that we didn't get much food but the charge much bigger then we thought. I looked at the menu, calculated what we ate and asked for the receipt for the detailed items. I could definitely feel a hesitation and when the server finally showed me, I found out that they charged 18% in the bill which has NEVER been explained to us. So basically, I added more tips on the top of the automatic tips and of course the price became ridiculously high. As I asked back "Did you automatically charge these tips?" the cashier pretended he doesn't know anything and asked me "Oh, nobody explained?" and erased extra tips from the receipt. However, I have no idea if the amount is really corrected as I used international credit card. I'm afraid they just showed a "gesture," not really correcting my payment. We genuinely enjoyed food but had to leave feeling sour.
Too bad. I see a lot of reviews in google as well as yelp complaining about this shady act. If this problem has been keeping mentioned, why don't you try to fix the problem? Why can't you try to be true and honest to your customers? If you have staffs that are not good at explaining, if you're too busy to do that to every customer, PRINT OUT THE SIGN AND LEAVE IT ON THE TABLE, OR POST ON THE WALL OR AT THE MENU. If you don't do this, it just makes you look like a scammer.
Seriously, you could do better,...
Read moreFood was not very good and was overpriced. While I was eating, I noticed the waitress talking to the table next to me about an ATM and I was worried because nowhere did it state that it was "CASH ONLY" and I only had a $20 that I keep for emergencies. I noticed the lady get up to get money out of the atm (located somewhere away from the restaurant) while her friend stayed at the table.
When I got my bill, the man that brought it stated that I needed to pay with cash. I barely had enough to cover my bill therefore I didn't have any for the tip. I got up to leave and as i was about to walk out, the waitress loudly called me back. I thought maybe I somehow didn't put down the right amount but then she yelled "WHERE IS THE TIP? YOU DIDN'T LEAVE A TIP!" I explained that since they asked for me to pay cash, I did not have enough for the tip (which is optional either way). She then gives me the cash back and brings me to the counter where they have a card reader. (A sign under it states there is a minimum of $15 to be able to use a card) The lady at the counter was rude and charged my card and kept pointing at the tip line on the receipt.
Why did they ask for cash only if they have a minimum of $15 and my total was 19.05? Seems shady to me. Why did she feel the need to call me out for a tip when tips are OPTIONAL (which I would've left in the first place anyway).
Bad experience for mediocre food....
Read moreI was disappointed that Uncle Lou wasn't open on the day I tried to go because it is one of the better Cantonese style restaurants that serves steamed Buffalo fish. So I went searching on Google maps and found this place. It wasn't very busy at 5pm weekday for dine in, although it was busy with takeout orders. The decor was okay, and the waiters performed with the expected perfunctory service typical in traditional Chinese restaurants in Chinatown. Chinese patrons tend to ignore this because they, like myself, go mainly for the food quality. Well, I was certainly not disappointed with my meal. I ordered steamed Chinese broccoli topped with oyster sauce, steamed shrimp dimsum ("hargow") and my anticipated steamed buffalo fish with ginger and scallions in soy sauce. The portions were large and ingredients were fresh. I was happy to see that the shrimp hargow didn't have cheap fillers and had good portion of shrimp. The fish was awesome. I'm definitely returning. Sorry, Uncle Lou's restaurant, I'm coming here from now in to avoid your very busy and crowded restaurant. Yes, the service at Uncle Lou's may be better with pleasant smiles but again, I'm at the restaurant for a great meal, and Yue Wong is fantastic with what I ordered. I don't need small chit chat or smiles by the servers. I mainly care about the food and not having to wait to be seated and to be able to take my time to...
