We typically go to the one in the West Village but with a large group for dinner I thought we tried the East Village location.
The vibe of the two can't be more different. West Village mellow low key where the East Village was loud and jam packed with hipster Twilight watching age group. It also seems this location is popular with the birthday crowd as many of the groups there were for birthdays (we were also). What also the West Village doesn't have is the strobing lights and music blaring, "Tanti auguri a te, Tanti auguri a te Tanti auguri..." every 20 minutes. It is also amazing to see how enthusiastic the servers are for each one like it was the first each time.
The simple menu and food is consistent with the other also. The pizza was delicious and pasta cooked just right. We were pretty hungry that night and ended up ordering two pizzas! The desserts is usually a weak spot but here it is just as good. The pistachio panna cotta was creamy smooth and the tiramisu had the right pick me up.
The decision here is just which location as the food is good in both. Do you want the laid back quite atmosphere of the West Village or the 'Tanti augruri...' every 30 minutes. Each...
Read moreOkay this is a very nice modern pizza place with lovely wood panels, mood lighting candles and great atmosphere. When we arrived for dinner (my companion and I) we were seated and have to wait for the waiter to do his rounds before he would get to us. It's only one dude doing the work of three waiters. When he got to us we did our due diligence to ask him twice for the 14-in pizza for like 20 something dollars. I later ordered a beer. And we ordered some sparkling water. When he presented us with the pizza we again ask hey is this the 14 in which he confirmed. We did not ask for a couple pizza or whatever. We asked for the regular 14-in. Said it several times. The pizza although delicious was dry and ask for some olive oil and pepper. Everything we ask for had a bit of a wait time to it because it's just him. He then proceeds to charge us for the large or whatever special that we did not ask for. He corrected it after a conversing on the error. At this point I just wanted to leave in which I had to physically hand him the card so we won't have to wait more to go about our business. This is definitely a managerial issue and avoidable miscommunication. Will not...
Read moreHaving been turned away from our normal West Village haunts and in need of a quick bite, we stumbled upon this tiny pizzeria. Though a little chilly for a spring evening we elected to sit outside, so as to avoid waiting for a table inside the packed restaurant. For some reason, this confused our waiter, and set off what can only be described as a series of being neglected followed by being waited on by what seemed like all of the available staff and the manager. The first waiter brought us a pitcher of water and filled our glasses less than halfway and walked back inside. Then the second waiter came out and took our orders. As we placed an order the waiter offered 2 toppings for our pizza - as long as we were willing to pay for them, then seemed confused at our reluctance. After over a half hour, with multiple waiters coming outside to check in on us the pizza finally came out. Luckily this was the salvaging moment of the entire night, as the pizza was delicious. Thin crust and well sauced, the pizza was eaten up in five minutes flat.
Overall a 4/5 on the food, but a 2 out of 5 for the service and confusing staff. Note that this is a...
