Nexus Club. Went for a driver fitting. Beautiful facility - clean, modern, and high tech. My swing speed is around 90 mph, and the gentleman fitted me with a $300 stiff-flex shaft. I’m not a fantastic golfer, but I can definitely get around. The fitting and the new driver were a gift. On the range and the course, I could not replicate what happened in the studio (which wasn’t great to begin with). $1000 + for a new driver I played with for about five rounds. I don’t know if it was just my swing, which I can take accountability for, because I was rusty. However, I just felt like I was upsold, and the guy fitting me didn’t care very much. I felt a bit rushed and didn't get to try many options. I told him I've played regular flex my whole life. Lesson learned. Advocate for yourself, even if they are professionals. So, in closing, I would recommend visiting a local country club or a place like Golf Galaxy to get your specs. I’m writing this a few years later because I recently got fitted again, and it’s made a dramatic improvement to my game. Still a wee bit bitter about the money I spent at True Spec when it could have been as easy as telling me I should be hitting a regular flex! Food...
Read moreOn The Fitter: Matthew Butler fit me for a Full Bag + putter.
Matthew has a great knowledge for equipment and stays up to date on the latest technology. He keeps the datasets organized and aptly named so that configurations are easy to compare and reference. Perhaps most importantly, he employs a scientific process and effectively finds the optimal club configs by doing so. Not only does this take strict adherence to process, but also requires the ability to make effective suggestions.
On The Studio:
I was fit in the Downtown Manhattan Studio. The hitting bays had plenty of room and the hitting mats were high quality. New Pro v1s were supplied. The Foresight technology and its softwares ability to customize on screen metrics was great. I asked to include relative face to path numbers for each shot and was excited to see that it was an available metric and easy to add to the dashboard.
The putting studio is an elevated deck with a quick green and one hole. It was extremely consistent and made for an accurate putter fitting.
Other amenities include Nespresso, water, and a clean bathroom.
On The Data: The data report is sent after the fitting for you records and is quite...
Read moreI’m very disappointed to be the first non-5 star review, but my experience was upsetting. I’m a rather new golfer (two years inconsistently). My game is far from good and I made that clear up front. I went in requesting help with finding an iron set that could help with consistency in my swing. Ultimately, John Wheeler seemed annoyed that I was there. At least once he said “not to be a dick, but…” I didn’t feel like I was being taken seriously and that John wanted to go home (I was his last appointment from what I could overhear him talking to his co worker about). John was very clear that a set of custom clubs wouldn’t benefit me and that I’m better off with a stock kit and lessons. I appreciated not being upsold custom clubs, but bed side manner was lacking. I did ultimately order 6i-9i + PW stock from PING as that was my most consistently swing head of the day.
It seems like if you’re already a great golfer this place will be great for you. If you struggle in the game and want patience and kindness it’s not...
