squeezed into Avenue B is Pavlo Mochi, a small spot serving a menu of unique mochi flavors, specialty coffee drinks, lemonades, bobas, ice cream and more! it’s a small colorful space which is devoted mostly to the making of the menu and is neatly maintained.
tried a number of the specialty coffee drinks. really enjoyed the Vanilla Coffee Ice as it is a subtle coffee drink made of vanilla coffee ice cubes melting in milk…which softens the flavor of the coffee and vanilla initially and then punches through as the ice cubes melting. coffee delivered in a creative way. had the strawberry matcha drink which i also really enjoyed as the flavors came together really in an interesting way—the matcha flavor with the tart sweetness of the strawberry punching through. toured a bunch of different drinks here and they all seem to be served in a sealed drink bottle with a tabbed top (think soda can) and each drink comes with a metal straw. really like this method of serving cold drinks. it’s a nice touch.
the owner, operator, chef, Pavlo, offered me a mango mochi to try and i obliged. more silky smooth and soft with only a slight bit of chewiness. the mochi i tried was not overly sweet, but had the essence of mango in the mochi’s filling. the Pavlo mochi is much larger than your typical factory-made mochi that you typically encounter. the Pavlo mochi is also not rubbery in texture like other mochis that i have tried. the menu, here, feels creative and is focused on flavor than sugariness in its drinks and mochi imo.
the owner and his staff are friendly. worth a visit if you want to try a dessert drink or eat...
Read moreThis place is a little trek from the nearest non-L subway (L doesn’t count it never works on weekends), but well worth the trek! Silver lining is that if you trek to and from you have well deserved whatever you are getting for all the calories spent! These guys hand out STAINLESS silverware and straws to go with their drinks and food, so thoughtful for the environment! I’m definitely taking them home and re-using. I got the mango passion fruit and vanilla mochi, it’s really really good, nothing like them store bought frozen ones, crash and yummy, just the right amount of tartness to balance out the rich cream flavor. I also got a mango coconut milkshake boba (yes i love mango season), the drink is not as sweet as I would have liked but still yummy on a hot day with a little refreshing tartness. I wish the boba were a little softer and less chewy though, to go with the mochi theme. The pistachio amaretto cherry and chocolate chunk ice cream is to die for, and made me skip the fluffy pancake, since I had gotten way too much food by then. Maybe next time. The packaging is very cute and we were offered permanent stainless cups as present, I have no idea why but gladly accepted them. Everyone loves freebies. Plus, they are the perfect size for...
Read morePavlo, an Ukrainian immigrant who mastered the art of mochi. Words cannot describe how decadent and utterly delicious this mochi was. Truly, the best I’ve ever had. I had their matcha raspberry, the flavors complimented each other perfectly. The dough melted in your mouth, it was so soft and smooth. The mango passionfruit vanilla is I think the best dessert I’ve had? It was glorious and everything I ever want in a dessert. I could eat a million of them. The vanilla cream and the burst of compote in the middle from the fruits was to DIE FOR. Not only that, but Pavlo himself was at the register and he is incredibly sweet! And gave us a free reusable cup with a straw and everything. The people outside the store also were so sweet bc everyone was in such a good mood after eating this...
