First of all, the service and the atmosphere is phenomenal The 3 stars is literately for the food that I ordered. The greeting from the time I walked through the door till I leave has no flaws. I would come back again, but may try something else from their regular menu.
Dish 1: (Special) Mussels with bone marrow. The mussels are very thin and don't have enough meat. I suggest they might want to get some east coast mussels instead. The bone marrow paired with the skinny mussels felt overpowering with no taste of the mussel itself.
Dish 2: Calamari. This dish is really good and It's NOT deep fried! Definitely very different from the usual and definitely worth a try. The calamari was stuffed with a hot pepper with some other stuffing on the side. Everything paired very well together.
Dish 3: (Special) Bone in Ribeye. The ribeye had too strong of the charred taste outside. It lost some of the beef taste due to that. The cut itself was very tender. It was served with some, I think, chimichurri sauce on top. The sauce didn't really bring out anything particular for the steak other than make it look appealing. The sides that came with the steak was amazing and would pair very well with bread; but you won't get any unless you ask for some.
Riesling from their wine menu. I think the wine was good. it didn't taste much like a Riesling and more like a Chardonnay. Can't quite put a dollar sign on it, but I think with the atmosphere and a friend,...
Read moreA small group of us were looking for a place to eat in the NoLita area, and surprisingly found Peasant in the search list. I could have sworn it closed down, because I've been here many years ago and liked the food here.
In any case, the food here was very good for the most part. My wife and I shared the Maltagliati Con Coniglio with braised rabbit & fava beans, and the Porchetta Arrosto rotisserie suckling pig with fingerling potatoes. My wife's friends shared the Bistecca Alla Fiorentina dry-aged t-bone steak and the Spaghetti Con Scampi with langoustine. My wife and I really enjoyed our dishes, and if you do come here you shouldn't miss out on the Porchetta.
My wife's friends loved the steak, though their pasta was too salty. The seafood that came with the pasta was good though.
The food overall is a little pricey. Our waiter seemed pretty knowledgeable, though was a bit pushy as far as trying to get us to order more food and to order that slightly more expensive bottle of wine. Still, if you're looking for a nice place for a full Italian cuisine, I would give this place a try. However, I'd save it for special occasions if you're on a budget. I would also recommend going with the waiter's suggestions if it's your...
Read moreI went here for Restaurant Week, not knowing anything about the restaurant and all I can say is I hope they put the Cavatelli in meat sauce (pictured here) on the permanent menu. It was probably one of the most flavorful pasta sauces I have ever had and I’m already craving it again! I ordered a cocktail, I believe called Sweater Weather, with Mezcal and fresh carrot juice which sounded intriguing although I didn’t think it was anything special, because to me the different flavor profiles described were not all easily tasted. My main dish was the Skate, which I think would’ve been a delicious dish with a different type of fish. (They have it on their regular menu as the Daily Catch). The sauce was very good and unique, but the skate itself had tons of bones, making it uncomfortable to eat, and it didn’t seem to absorb the flavor of the sauce leaving the actual skate with a blander taste. I had the tiramisu affogato for dessert. I liked it as it was, but they upsell you to try it with a shot of anise liqueur, which was just ok. It was fine mixed with the gelato but soaked into the ladyfingers tasted too much like alcohol for my liking in a dessert. Overall good place, and I really do want to go back to try...
