Percy's Pizza serves up pizza pies and slices on Bleecker for over a decade and i have yet to be disappointed by its cheese + sauce + crust offerings. is it the greatest pizza ever in the universe? no, but its pizza is consistently very good pizza. a small retro-ish school pizza joint with a couple of tables inside and some outdoor seating via shed in front. the vibe is very much that of NYC pizzerias that are quickly disappearing from the boroughs's food-scape. well maintained and organized. Percy's doesn't pop up on many folks radars bc it very much a neighborhood spot and hasn't been overhyped by goofy influencers on Instagram and TikTok. but trust me--the plain cheese is where it is at.
there are a variety of specialty pies and slices from pepperoni to mixed to veggies. one thing i like is the slices are not over-the-top and just focus on making a tasty slice without needing any flash or sizzle. that’s why i really appreciate the plain cheese slice for its simplicity and attention to the basics: cheese, sauce, and crust. the plain slice has a crust on the thinner side not too much flop with decent crispness. the sauce is flavorful without being too overpowered by any one element with a little sweetness. it is a simple slice which does not miss. perfect for post-drinking or when you need some calories on the go or simply need to take a break from the city’s din and escape into calories by sitting down with some carbs. plain slice, $2
the staff is chill and genuinely friendly. it’s been a two-man operation. one at the counter and the other...
Read morePercy's was opened by the South Brooklyn chain of pizzerias after their location here failed to gain traction. Seeing the proliferation of dollar slice joints, they decided to give their interpretation on the "style". It was probably a good choice to give nearby NYU students slices for $1 apiece instead of $4. Percy's is about as small as you can get. There is a door, a 3 small tables, a 4 corridor of space, and the counter. It isn't well lit, and the service was curt but fine. There were 2-3 people at all times hanging out in there, but I got my slice reheated, paid, and left.
This wasn't a bad slice of pizza, but it was fairly mediocre. The cheese had an odd plasticity to it, and the sauce was very muted. On the other hand, the crust was thin and crisp. Mind you it wasn't spectacular with some great, bready flavor, but they at least got the most basic element of pizza--that so many places mess up--correct. For this reason alone I may do this again, especially if I'm with friends on a budget. Otherwise I'm happy to pay a bit more for a marinara at Pizza Box, a slice at Fiore's down the block, or John's on Bleeker if...
Read moreIn the jungle of 2 Bros and other $1 pizza pop up shops this one is definitely a strong competitor in the title for BEST dollar slice. Price is obviously, you guessed it $1 per regular slice. * They do speak French here along with English. I kind of wish I had retain my French vocabulary after taking it for 4 years in high school :/ . *The pizza is laid out on wooden boards on the side after it is finished baking in the oven. Not sure why they do this but maybe to keep the pizza slice firm? The slices are thin but SAUCY. I LOVE SAUCE. The crust was almost perfect. Better than 2 Bros? I'd say so especially at certain 2 Bro locations. * The background music is also at a good listening level and to tunes that people actually know without having to know Spanish to understand. Here's frowning at you 2 Bros. No one listens to Mexican Marachi blasting at stadium listening level at 2 am. THE FU-K. ** Service is friendly and honest. I forgot to grab my money back after paying with a $5 bill. The cashier came and fetch me to give me my money. ...
