DO NOT RECOMMEND
Pick A Bagel has been my go-to for years due to its convenient proximity to the 6 (it's right next store). Their bagels are typical for NYC - there are better places to go, but if you are a tourist, then these will fit your needs just fine. They have a multitude of excellent spreads to complement their bagels, leading to delicious breakfasts for those who are on their commutes, or simply want a classic bagel as they peruse Museum Mile.
That being said, their prices are absolutely exorbitant, inconsistent, and lack transparency. If you buy a bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese, you may pay $6.00, or you may pay $10.50, depending on who is behind the register. Pay attention to the fact that they clearly add arbitrary tips to your order. If this activity continues, they will most likely be reported to the BBB.
This is effectively a chain breakfast bodega charging boutique, niche prices. Aside from their bagels and spreads, all other ingredients are at the level of Dunkin Donuts (the chain restaurant effect). If you aren't getting a bagel, I would suggest going across the street for a better deal.
NOTE: If you can afford to pay over $10.00 for an average breakfast sandwich each morning, then do not let this review dissuade you. However if you are interested in finding a classic NYC breakfast joint, then there are so many others I would recommend, if less conveniently located. It is sad to see this place fall to the perils of price gouging as many other shops do, and I really hope they work to...
ย ย ย Read moreThis place just served me the most vile $14 chicken sandwich Iโve ever had. Like monumentally bad. Lowkey deserves and award for being so bad. Tasted kinda like sewer water and burnt bread. I was starving real bad so I did eat half of it, except for the parts of it that were hard as a rock and I would have needed a dentist appointment if I attempted to bite any harder. As a matter of fact I was today years old when I learned grilled chicken could possibly be hard enough to shatter a window. Not sure if it was just old or my guy cooked it too long in the microwave. Needless to say Iโm still hungry, probably going to have diharrea later and Iโve got a taste so nasty in my mouth Iโll tell my grandchildren about it one day. They should make a vaccine for the chicken sandwich I just ate from this place....
ย ย ย Read moreI came here on a rainy day when no one else was placing an order. Yet somehow, I walked out with the completely wrong order. I imagine the order I received was intended for a seamless customer, as I did see my correct bagel being made. Very disappointing, they were so slow it never crossed my mind to think to check my order prior to leaving. I was in a rush and unfortunately could not come back to have them fix the order. Additionally, I had paid extra for toppings I clearly didnt receive.
On top of that, both bagels were carelessly made with the cream cheese barely spread. If this is how they perform on a slow rainy day, I cant imagine what it is like when they're busy. The staff was...
