Super surprising and super disappointing. I don't even know what to write except a bullet list of what happened. Seeing all the other 5 star reviews does not match up to our experience at all. 0/10 on food, drinks AND service. The prices and portions are those of NYC upscale casual, the experience was not.
We were sat by the host (he was perfectly lovely, no notes there) No greeting from a server. We waited a long time for someone to come and we saw the server look at our table, sigh and seem annoyed and come over. No greeting, just came and said 'Is this your first time with us?' and said what she needed to say. It is a small space so it looks crowded, but there were more open tables than occupied when we came in. I wouldn't treat tables like this when I was slammed, and honestly, they weren't slammed at all. We ordered food and said we needed a few minutes to order drinks. Our server never came back for the drink order. She didn't touch our table when food came out, or when drinks came out. She checked on us once at the end, asked how everything was - I said 'not great actually, we aren't liking it much, but that's okay, everything came out alright.' She was sorry to hear that but had no follow up. We asked to close out almost immediately after that, having barely touched our drinks and leaving most of one of the items (because they did not taste good), and there was no check in from a manager or follow up from our server or even asking if there was anything she could do to fix stuff for us. When we asked for the check, our server asked another server "Can you get them their check?" in front of us, as if we weren't there The server who brought us our check didn't look at us or say one word to us the whole time. The servers were discussing what they needed to do for their tables right in front of guests, it was extremely unprofessional and definitely not the type of atmosphere you would expect from a place serving upscale casual (or atleast at upscale casual prices) The runners did not know table numbers and were counting them aloud and asking us if we had ordered that item. Food - we ordered the 'Roti Rips and Dip' and the Papaya Salad. I am usually a big fan of Papaya Salad. This tasted only of concentrated lime. It didn't even taste like fresh lime juice, just the artificial tasting store bought jugs. Which isn't great when that is the only flavor in the dish. The amount of dip was like 6 bites worth. The dip tasted good but was such a small portion. The amount of roti was excessive compared to the dip. I doubt the roti is made in-house. It tasted like the frozen rotis and not even the good frozen ones. Drink - we ordered Make me a bicycle and Purple pucker (n/a) We asked the runner who took our drink order (cause our server wasn't serving us) how sweet the Purple pucker was. She said "it is pretty well balanced, it's kind of like a tart lemonade". We ordered it and it was not tart, and it was very sweet and not well balanced. 0/10 Make me a bicycle is supposed to be thai basil vodka + thai chilli aperol + lemon + bubbles + olive spritz. The whole drink was more red than it should be if it has those ingredients, visually unappealing and was flavorless. Overall we paid 60 dollars for food we couldn't eat and a bad experience - the only item we finished or were able to take more than 3 bites/sips of was the roti rips and dip. Those drinks were pretty full and the papaya salad was mostly untouched...
Read moreAfter having frequented the LES location, I was eager to try the new spot on the UWS.
Stopped by for Sunday brunch and was warmly greeted by Tre, who seemed to be working the host stand / floating about making sure things were running smoothly.
The new space is a bit larger (?) and more open than then the previous. Sadly, Tre informed me that the LES space was now closed but assured me the new spot was just as good.
Graciously, Tre also gave me a free papaya salad - one of my favorite dishes - as a welcome into the new space. It was both unexpected and deeply appreciated. I was pretty hungry having walked up from GCT with a full pack.
The dish was the perfect blend of crunchy, nutty, spicy and sour - all the flavors I had come to love at the old spot.
Ordered mezcal martini - which was objectively spectacular. So good, I had another.
Finished off the meal with a braised beef roti / consommé that was basically a quesadilla fusion that was perfectly savory.
Fantastic service - delicious food - check this place out. You won’t regret it.
And the music was also great - fantastic reggae vibes - perfect for a Sunday brunch.
If you remember the hip hop vibe of the old spot - you know PnK always has great tunes.
Can’t wait to come back and try the...
Read moreWent to Pig and Khao on the UWS for the first time, and it was good! The food was the best part of our experience. The dishes have a lot of depth, and each one is very unique. I recommend trying a few apps and entrées to get a sense of the various dishes offered.
The drinks need a bit of work. The Piggy Paloma tasted bland - mostly like grapefruit soda. The Kentucky Pig had a strange aftertaste. The wine selection is lovely.
One big turn off was when the windows were being cleaned in the interior of the restaurant. I am not sure why the windows were being cleaned after the doors opened for customers at 5 PM, but every time the door opened, the Windex was getting sucked right into the bar area, especially the customers seated closest to the entrance. One of the patrons mentioned it to the bartender, who told the hostess and the person cleaning. The patron received a very unkind and snarky response which I thought was incredibly inappropriate, especially since the smell was very overwhelming and unpleasant to deal with. Based on this experience, I think the restaurant needs to work on improving customer service so that people will...
