I have always lamented the lack of Vietnamese cuisine on the UWS - Chinese, Thai, Japanese, and Korean are all easy to find. Google suggested Two Wheels since I travel quite a bit to get Vietnamese and Two Wheels is almost in my neighborhood (under 20 blocks away.)
Definitely will be back! I had Fresh Summer Rolls with shrimp and the Vietnamese Noodles with Lemongrass Chicken (Bun Ga Nuong) and was not disappointed! I meant to eat in, but got sidetracked on the way and just decided to get delivery. After I put my choices in the basket the website popped up with a message saying pick up only. I decided to go and pick it up. It was after 9pm and they close at 10pm on Tuesday, so I didn't want to sit and eat and be rushed nor did I want to slow down the closing crew of the restaurant.
Two Wheels does have delivery - just not through their own website. I think the manager mentioned Seamless and Grubhub were delivery services that Two Wheels used. Be forewarned - the external delivery services charge higher prices for items (usually $1 or more per item) and then charge delivery fees AND service fees separately from tax and tip for the delivery person. I find that a McDonald's Big Mac meal is around $9 in the store but getting that delivered comes out to around $23. Shocking.
The Summer Rolls with shrimp were $7.95 for two rolls cut in half (4 pieces) with a thick sweet peanut dipping sauce topped with crushed peanuts. My only comment is that the single mint cluster on top of the summer rolls would have been better in the rolls than just garnishing the rolls. I pulled the leaves off and stuck one leaf in each half roll. Some of the best Summer Rolls I have encountered! Strange that the menu that I got for to-go orders lists $6.95 while the website shows $7.95, and this store just opened 1 month ago. I think $5.95 would be a more appropriate charge for summer rolls, with a $1 charge for meat/shrimp added to the roll, bringing the cost to $6.95 when with meat. I would still order these again, because they were really great. I just think they are a little pricy for what they are.
The $ for the Vietnamese Noodles with Lemongrass Chicken (Bun Ga Nuong) was really appropriate (or even a little low for the item up to the norm at other Vietnamese restaurants.) The $11.95 price tag gives you a substantial amount, enough to eat for dinner without having to order something else to augment the size to satisfy. I usually get an appetizer, and did tonight, but could have just had the Noodles with Lemongrass Chicken and not needed to eat something else. Very tasty too!
I hope this restaurant does well and I will do my part by talking the restaurant up to friends looking for good Vietnamese food, and by frequenting the restaurant myself. Great job guys!...
Read moreTwo wheels just opened up recently it showed on my yelp so put it on my collection and read some reviews. Reviews are somewhat good and somewhat bad. Someone were saying about they waited on the line pho for 30 minutes & when they got seats they ordered pho but the workers said they are OUT.
My review are similar to that.. So when I and my friend walked in we weren't greeted. Even though we have to order ourselve I think is the right thing to say hello or welcome but nope I haven't heard anything from those two ladies working at the register.
I ordered crispy spring roll (vegetarian), Two wheels pho, parmesan truffle fries, vermicelli with sugarcane shrimp, also thai ice tea.
Was gonna order the daily dessert selection but NOPE THEY DONT HAVE IT, after my two food came out the girl is like I dont have crispy spring roll vegetarian it would have been great if she told me before I placed the order with her.
It would also be good if you have more vegan option available, because a lot of people can't have meat, or chicken. Vegan broth.. My friend is obsessed with pho but he couldn't get the pho because it was with beef broth.
All the food was good which I will definitely come by next time to try other food from their menu. But the vermicelli bowl it comes inside the paper bowls and the amount they give little as compare to other places. Also the sugarcane shrimp (7 pieces for $1.50) and the shrimp weren't warm. Vietnamese crepe sounded interesting. The tables were kind of dirty hopefully it's cleaned next time before the next...
Read moreI recently visited Two Wheels, located in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, hoping to indulge in a flavorful Banh Mi sandwich. The service was decent, with the convenience of ordering from a virtual kiosk. However, I must admit that I was disappointed by the taste of the food.
The Banh Mi sandwich I ordered failed to live up to my expectations. The flavors were lacking, leaving me craving the vibrant and bold taste that characterizes a truly delicious Banh Mi. The marinated grilled meat seemed bland and lacked the desired tenderness, while the pickled vegetables failed to provide that satisfying crunch and tanginess I had hoped for.
I also found the overall composition of the sandwich to be underwhelming. The ratio of ingredients felt imbalanced, with not enough cilantro leaves and jalapeño slices to provide the refreshing and spicy kick that should accompany a Banh Mi. Additionally, the mayonnaise and dressing seemed to be sparingly applied, diminishing the overall taste experience.
While I appreciate the convenience of the virtual kiosk ordering system and the decent service, the lackluster flavor profile of the Banh Mi sandwich left me unsatisfied. I hope that Two Wheels takes this feedback into consideration and works towards improving the taste and composition of their Banh Mi offerings for future patrons.
Remember that taste preferences can vary, so others may have a different experience...
