I don't usually write reviews but I was unfortunately pretty bummed after my coloring yesterday at the salon for a partial highlight. I won't call out the stylist because I liked her personally and we had a lovely chat the entire time but I think the business missed as a whole on multiple fronts.
The biggest disappointment for me was that I came in for a standard partial highlight (been a blonde for a long time so not my first rodeo), shared pictures, discussed overall how I wanted to brighten up the coloring just a few notches but keep it natural. Nothing crazy and I'm not even picky when it comes to my hair honestly. The result was that I ended up darker than when I came in with less dimension and nowhere near the pictures I shared. I think she used a toner that was darker than intended and it cut out a lot of the dimension I had when I started and also bumped it from darker blonde to light brown at my base.
I kept thinking perhaps I didn't explain it properly which I know can sometimes be the case in this scenario but I looked back at the pictures I shared and I can't help but see how we got here.
I was hoping the lighting at home might make it look better but I couldn't sit with it so I decided to do something that I've never done which is call back the salon (SUPER awkward I might add) and let them know that I wasn't entirely happy/ask for a correction. The receptionist didn't ask many questions and said she'd get back to me with scheduling because the stylist wasn't available the rest of the day and was off this weekend...and that was the end! I didn't hear back yesterday, I called and left a message a few hours later, haven't heard back today, and am now going to another salon to correct back to even where I started. I'd rather repay to have my hair done properly than run the risk at this point and also wait on a phone call I may not be getting.
If someone is unhappy with a few hundred dollar service, I'd think they would be all over trying to correct that, especially knowing how difficult/awkward it can be for the client to even ask for a correction. But I can say that I haven't felt it even after deciding to give them a chance to fix it.
In the caliber of other NYC salons, unfortunately this didn't live up. I would suggest as a first-time client to go elsewhere. Plenty of salons in the neighborhood that would likely be more responsive if you didn't like...
Read moreI have never had a better experience at a hair salon in New York. I cannot recommend this salon enough!
Erin, who works the front desk and takes care of all scheduling (and basically everything) is so warm and personable and very patient with me 😂
Morgan is my stylist, and he is amazing. He’s given me the best haircut and color I’ve ever had, because he understands what I needed (even before I did) He specializes in curly hair, which is important to me. I came in with very bright red hair and a severe stacked short cut from my last salon, and he knew exactly what the right color would be for me, and suddenly I had beautiful golden strawberry blonde hair (I’m a natural blonde, the color is just naturally dull), and the shade and highlights are perfect.
The cut is perfect as well. With very little direction from me he transformed my previous (grown out) styled hair to something I didn’t even know I wanted
The ambience is calm and quiet. There’s chit chat, but it’s warm and friendly (no one is yelling and rushing like other places I’ve been)
Can’t recommend enough!
The bright red hair is the before from the cut and color from the previous salon, the after is the...
Read moreThis salon is FILTHY! The towels are ALL STAINED. SINKS CLOGGED, There’s a very aggressive DOG running around the salon! It needed to be tied up because she was attacking a guest. One of the stylists cut herself as the dog ran besides her! EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. The receptionist is just TRASHY AND UNFRIENDLY . Her names Erin or Aaron. She has the most vulgar language and conversations out loud and I felt VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. Morgan who cut my hair was extremely AGGRESSIVE and seemed to be in a whole other world!!! All he talked about was weed! AND WENT BACK AND FORTH TO HIS DOG the ENTIRE TIME. My haircut was okay , but my forehead STILL HAS STAINS! Because they RAN OUT OF STAIN REMOVER. UNPROFESSIONAL. The whole place smells like weed and rodent. (It’s a basement ) David has a very nasty sneaky energy about him , i overheard him talking with the receptionist about doing inappropriate things with the male clients who were SITTING IN THE SALON. I am white , but I do no condone the use of racist slang words and terms. Shame on BOTH OF YOU. DISAPPOINTED. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STAY AWAY...
