Rhodora Wine Bar — Restaurant in New York

I've been hesitant to leave this review because Rhodora Bar has always felt like a beloved local haunt to me, and I genuinely want to continue supporting it. However, my recent experiences have left me questioning whether the establishment truly values the support of all its patrons.

There's an employee who works there, Shawn or Shane, present on Thursday and Saturday nights. My encounters with him have pushed me to avoid visiting during those times due to his dismissive and, frankly, rude demeanor. Once, he insisted we rush our orders and even falsely claimed that no spirits are served after 9:30 pm, subsequently refusing service.

This concern goes beyond poor service; it's about respect and equality. As a Chinese American, and my friend being Black, it's hard not to notice the stark difference in how my white male partner is treated in comparison. My discomfort escalated last Thursday when I overheard this individual making derogatory and racist remarks about another staff member. This kind of behavior not only tarnishes the welcoming community vibe that Rhodora is known for but also suggests a potentially wider issue within management that allows this conduct to go unchecked.

Rhodora Bar, I cherish what you represent to our neighborhood, but it's imperative to address these issues. Everyone deserves to feel welcomed and valued, and it's disappointing to witness such contrasting treatment based on race. Please,...

Halley, we exchanged emails AND met with you in person, and it's clear you do not remember the conversations we had or the commitments to follow through on your end. We've gone with another vendor for our event and could not in good faith choose Rhodora at this time. Thank you.

I wish I had good things to say about my experience at Rhodora.

After visiting a few times, I inquired about holding an event at their space. Staff and management were unavailable after multiple attempts of contact and left communication unanswered for several weeks. When we did visit the space, the manager never followed up with a quote, email or any of the communication that was promised.

I found this lack of follow through unprofessional and disrespectful, as we were trying to support a local business during this time. If you're looking for an establishment that respects its clientele try Bacchus, Cafe Paulette or one of the other great restaurants...

Been coming here for awhile. Honestly some staff are absolutely lovely...but my experience tonight was a last straw. One bartender in particular is pretty rude, and told me as he has in the past that he doesnt have "the gear" to do a salt rim (a plate) even though ive had it plenty of times here by kinder staff. Tonight we had a larger table with friends but all individual tabs. When I went to close out mine, the bartender suggested to the girl he was taking to that my tab was the one she might be ordering to (i quickly shut that down as she was not in our party) when I went to pay the number was much higher than I thought possible. I asked to see an itemized list and they said they could only show me after I payed. After paying, I noticed the amount of margs was inaccurate and told the staff and they essentially told me I was wrong and too bad they couldnt do anything cause I had already closed out - as if i had a choice.
