I cannot say enough positive things about Rosa Mexicano on Second Avenue. The first time I visited this restaurant was on New Year’s Eve, tonight. While other restaurants often have quick turnover rates on holidays and can be unwelcoming due to large crowds, it leaves customers feeling rushed and takes away from the dining experience. That was NOT the case here. From the moment I walked in, my family was greeted with warmth, smiles, and employees who were committed to going above and beyond to make sure our dining experience was top-notch. The atmosphere was beautifully decorated, music lively, and the food was absolutely delicious. I especially enjoyed watching the cooking process through the open-kitchen style where I could see guacamole, tortillas, and food orders being made fresh.
In a special way, I must note the server, Carlos Bohorque. Carlos was truly one of the BEST servers I have ever had at a restaurant, especially in New York City. He went above and beyond to make my family feel welcome and like family. He was attentive, on the mark, kind, provided history and information about the restaurant, and truly made our experience there. We didn’t even have to ask for anything because he was always there anticipating what our needs would be. His service was absolutely incredible. Thank you, Carlos for such a wonderful night, and thank you Rosa Mexicano for being part of us ending 2023...
Read moreWe came here for brunch and had such a positive experience. We had come with friends that had a baby stroller and they were so accommodating and willing to move us to a bigger booth so we could fit the stroller more comfortably.
Service: service was fast and efficient. We didn’t feel rushed to order and they checked in on us the right amount of time. Food came out reasonably fast.
Ambiance: the vibe here is great. It’s well decorated and comfortable. You could easily bring a date here or a group of friends. The booths are also very comfortable.
Food: They start you off with complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa is really good, it’s well seasoned and not spicy. I highly recommend the guacamole. It comes freshly made and they let you pick the spice level. Their medium spice is actually medium spicy so I appreciate that consistency. We got the black bean and cheese empanadas and they were really good. I do think it needed a little more salt. We also got the mushroom enchiladas with red sauce. I love how they roasted the mushrooms. The red sauce is also really good.
Drink: we got the cucumber refresco. It was really refreshing and not sweet. The mocktails were also reasonably priced, less than $10.
Price: the price of dishes is very reasonable especially for the amount of food you’re getting.

Read moreI went within a week of when they first opened this location and the food was wretchedly awful. I vowed to never go again, but I decided to give them another shot today and try something different because i really wanted Mexican food. I went in late afternoon and sat at the bar (there were maybe 3 occupied tables in the whole room). It took them at least 8 minutes to first even come up to me at the bar (there was only one other person sitting at the bar, and like 4 guys that worked there that were just standing around). I put in my order (a chilaquiles entree with chicken and I asked for no crema). It took 35 minutes to come out, which is insanely long to wait (even if they were super busy, which they weren't), and it was dry and crusty as if it was waiting under a heat lamp for too long; it also had crema drizzled all over it, that I asked to omit. The menu said it was $19 plus $5 with chicken (which comes to $24). But the bill showed the entree as $26 (and THEN tax was added). I didn't even mention it, because it's only a $2 difference, but it was annoying and just added to the terrible experience and I just wanted to pay and leave as fast as possible. I will not...
