This place is good, it’s popular for a reason. If it were possible I’d give it a 4.2 or 4.3. It’s not a high level fine dining restaurant and doesn’t claim to be but it does market itself gourmet.
The atmosphere is great, it has a nice ambiance about it which makes it a good date spot or friend meet up. It has solid background music which isn’t too loud but loud enough to compliment the restaurant/add to the experience without taking away the ability to hold a conversation. The atmosphere was great and exceeded expectations. The service was also excellent.
That said, the food met expectations but did not exceed them if that makes sense. The olives were… okay, I don’t necessarily recommend them but they are good to share between 3-4 people, now I would recommend the burrata and piquillo peppers! Those were a great snack for the group, it doesn’t come with bread but that forced us order the pizza Bianca bread which was crispy and good. Perfect for the burrata. The cacio e Pepe while good and thick… wasn’t filling. Me and a friend ordered the same dish and after felt it necessary to go to a bodega to get more food which was rather disappointing considering we both ordered it because we thought it’d be a heavier, more filling dish. It was good though, not amazing, but it was flavorful and besides not being filling enough Worth the price. The pizza was great and was shared between 2 other people whom felt it was filling enough.
Overall the food met expectations but didn’t exceed them, it’s a good restaurant for a date and the food will be good, but it’s not amazing, I didn’t order the pizza which may be it’s specialty but as a place advertised as gourmet that’s what I’m going to base the rating on and it’s a solid 4, still worth going too, still great, but not excellent. I wouldn’t mind coming back someday to try some other dishes and it is a...
Read moreI’m staying at the Artel in Bushwick for a short visit to NYC. This restaurant came recommended by the receptionist at the hotel because she’d heard so many customers rave about it.
I went in without expecting much and it was a great experience, the servers are attentive without being annoying and the ambience is fantastic. It’s not a place to bring family or have any sort of formal meeting but it’s a great place to go on a date or hang out with a few friends over an excellent drink menu. I was dining alone and as a result may have been given the least wanted seat in the house, across the kitchen and bar where you can see what’s happening behind the scenes but not in the cool artistic way. Other than unfortunate circumstance, I thought the service was a 10/10.
I had a $22 papardelle which after tax amounts to $25. It was delicious, nothing revolutionary but it was very well made and I won’t mind eating it again. The portion was adequate, although it’s advertised as a larger plate, enough for one, sharing for two. I believe it’s a cash only restaurant but there’s an ATM within the premises.
The ambience was lovely, dimly lit with an excellent playlist and the right temperature. Seating is cramped but the overall ambience compensates for it. If I’m in the area again, I’ll definitely visit to try something more and preferably I’ll take someone special along. It’s better enjoyed...
Read moreSummary: Highly surprised - not at all what I was expecting, not in a good way. Will never go again based on my experience. Not worth the money.
Service: Overall average. The server was nice, just not what I was expecting. Didn't explain the menu, when I asked recommendations, didn't really give any. I just chose stuff, didn't tell me the similarities, just took our order. When the server asked us if we wanted to take our large plates home (they were 98% intact) and we so said No, he was not even curious as to why our large plates were intact. I was just in shock.
Food: It seemed like the same ingredients are thrown around & together and in an obvious way? I get it you don't want to waste ingredients but it was kind of the same? GF pizza was not that good. I've definitely had better in NYC. Large plates, we found them pretty nasty. Took my first bite, husband took a first bite, I tasted his, he tried to eat his. We left them there. I can't even tell you, to me it tasted like NYC public school lunch meat (God forgive me). I don't have a problem paying for good food, but I could definitely gotten better food for the same price or less not far. I just wanted to try a new place and this restaurant has 4.6 (how sway)
Atmosphere: It as cute, I'm not going to hold you. Just a lot of missing 'hospitality rules' i think. I don't know.
I don't intend on...
