Ranking my top bites at Somedays: It is no doubt the hottest new bakery in Astoria. Their head baker was from my favorite bakery Librae. I am usually a savory pastry person, but I adored their sweet pastries much more than their savory options.
**There was a line sometimes but it wasn’t too terrible. Expect 10-15 min wait on weekends.
(1) Pistachio Raspberry Lattice Never a fan of pistachio raspberry combo but I was converted by this one. Perfectly layered with pistachio frangipane, raspberry jam and white chocolate, every bite was a biss. It was not as heavy and sweet as the Librae’s pistachio rose croissant.
(2) Almond Croissant Their almond croissant is truly a game changer. It has ruined me for other regular almond croissants. A new batch was all gone in split seconds. I was lucky to seize the last one from the shelf, and it was still hot! The crunch of the croissant was so satisfying and the warm almond frangipane oozed out when I took a bite (so messy that I couldn’t film the interior).
(3) Chocolate Hazelnut Praline Lattice Surprisingly obsessed with the dark chocolate and hazelnut praline filling. It reminded me of ferroro rocher with the crushed hazelnuts. My bf disliked it as it was too bitter for his liking, but it was right up my alley and I devoured the whole thing.
(4) Black Sesame Tahini Pain au Chocolat I wish they still had the croissant version so black sesame and tahini frangipane could shine on its own. The chocolate filling was too sticky and rich, stealing all the flavors. I could only taste the toasty nuttiness from the black sesame brittle on top.
*Spinach Ricotta Escargot The roll was soft and fluffy. It was well seasoned and stuffed with spinach. Hot honey flavor was not noticeable though.
*Pretzel Cheddar Twist The most underwhelming piece in our haul. We picked the smoked paprika greek yogurt as the dip but it tasted straight up like spicy mayo (and not spicy enough). The everything pretzel was just okay,...

Arrived at 10:30 am 9/17, offering was slim to none with me opting to try the new crab croissant, which was absolutely disgusting for $8 plus tip, there was an awful rancid after taste on a tough croissant that tasted old. The young man serving me was very helpful but won’t be coming here in the future.
I also purchase several pastries and spend on average $30-$50 with the exception of today!
I tend to get the egg and cheese croissant which wasn’t available, but had interactions with a rude fuller woman, who served me on my April 1st visit. She refused to check for a non burnt batch and claimed that’s how it’s made.
I brought this up with another young woman after that visit who was lovely and apologized for the previous incident stating that it may have been an April Fools joke, um really in this economy to pull a “joke” on paying customers for poorly prepared, stale food is a terrible business practice of a joke!!!
I also had an incident in which a male server couldn’t jump fast enough to dismiss me as he tried to help two white millennial women who entered, they need to have more diversity!!!!
They have a meh staff at best and over priced, day old items...
Read moreI’ve always loved Astoria — it feels more down-to-earth and less pretentious than a lot of places in the city. Today just reinforced that. I’d heard a lot about Somedays Bakery, especially their divine pistachio lattice, so when I happened to be visiting a friend nearby, I finally decided to check it out. The moment I walked in, I was hit by the smell of fresh-baked pastries — honestly, one of those core memory moments. But what really stood out wasn’t just the pastries (which, spoiler, are amazing), but the people running the place. The pistachio lattice were still in the oven when we arrived, and we didn’t mind waiting. About 30 minutes later, when they were finally ready, we went back in — and the person packing our order was so kind. She even gave me the little extra crispy bits from the baking tray! And then, at the counter, I witnessed this sweet exchange where the staff were trying to not let an elderly gentleman pay for his order. It was such a heartwarming, genuinely wholesome moment. The whole vibe of the place just felt… homely. Like you were part of a neighborhood, not just a customer.
I’ll definitely be coming back. Places like this deserve every bit of the...
