Updated: I'm unfortunately changing my review. I travel from far to get my son's birthday cakes and spend a lot of money. The last cake they made for me was not up to standard. They printed all the pictures, cut them out and put them on the cake. There was so little effort when they've done amazing work in the past. I'm attaching the inspo pic for the Mario cake and the actual cake. Just incredibly disappointed when I know they can do a better job. This is the last time I order from here. Very sad.
Previous review: I've gotten 2 cakes from this bakery for my son's birthdays. First, the cakes are delicious. The rainbow cake is our fave. Second, they do amazing work with fondant. The pictures speak for themselves. Note I switched out the numberblocks they had on the front of the cake with sugar ones I had, which is why you see the red mark. The cake was flawless. Also, they package the cakes well and care about their customers. I was only going to be in the city on a specific day and they turned the cake around quick and made sure it was ready when I needed it, even calling to follow up with me. Well worth the out...
Read moreI’ve been a loyal costumer for years. This place was my go to for custom orders in quantity. Always fresh and delicious, although this time I was disappointed with the outcome of what I received. The work just looks sloppy and seemed very rushed. All of the cake pops, strawberries and cookies were designed in white chocolate without asking a preference. The lines were smudged and very uneven/ drippy looking. The cow print on the cake pops looks like flowers, the design of the Buzz lightyear strawberry's should have had a bit more detail and Sheriff Woodys shirt looks sloppy like the lines are uneven and dripping. This was unlike any of my previous orders prior. I was very upset and unsatisfied with the result. Definitely think that it could have been better executed. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be recommending or coming back any longer. When I pay top dollar, I expect top notch work. I feel as if I could have done better elsewhere. I feel as though this time I...
Read moreSituated at this delightful corner across the street from Athens Square Park on 30th Avenue in Astoria, this cozy neighborhood establishment, translated from the Italian meaning “the bakery," is where my partner, my cousin and I came today for lunch. Upon entering, the interior was clean with a rustic vibe where several tables filled with patrons. Opened in 2011, Il Fornaio Bakery does its own baking on the premises, which includes cakes, cookies, and pastries. One of Il Fornaio’s specialties is their rainbow pastry, layered with cannoli cream and iced in chocolate for a triple treat. They also feature sandwiches, which we decided on: Astoria Park (honey turkey, pepper Jack cheese, mustard/mayo), Queensborough (turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato), and Ditmars Blvd (salami, provolone cheese, soppresata). The sandwiches were made fresh, big, well-seasoned, and delicious. The prices were reasonable. What a wonderful lunch experience, so we could...
