Ordered for delivery. The food was hot and fast, but it wasn't any good. The 'return of the mac' was grossly creamy and bland, and 'sista p's dumplings' were small, tough, had barely any bok choy as an accompaniment and tasted only like the chili oil they were drowned in. Nothing nuanced here at all- which would be fine if I spent $10 at a gourmet deli, but this was $27 at a foodie type restaurant. I feel like at this point Marcus samuellson can put dog food in a dish, give it a cutesy name and charge $17 for it. May try eating here again but would not order either of these dishes.
The decor: One thing that I loved about Streetbird was the decor. It was artistic, stylish, and had a very urban feel. With boomboxes on the wall, drums hanging from the ceiling, televisions in the bathroom, and street art stretching across the wall, this is definitely one of the coolest looking restaurants I have ever eaten in.
The staff: The staff was wonderful, they were very friendly and hospitable.
The food: Now, this is where Streetbird lost all of those pretty stars. After trying Samuelsson's other Harlem restaurant (Red Rooster) and being disappointed, I had higher expectations for Streetbird, despite the negative reviews I had heard. Unfortunately I was disappointed yet again. I ordered the chicken + waffles meal with a glass of orange juice. I have eaten quite a lot of chicken and waffles in my time and I would have to say that this was probably the most disappointing of them all. The waffles came out cold and they were a little too thick. The chicken was decent at best; the thing I liked the most was the bourbon syrup, it was definitely a unique taste. I was hoping I would get a glass of fresh orange juice with my meal, but you could tell it was the frozen kind, you know the one you get from an aluminum container in the frozen section at the grocery store. It was confirmed by my waiter that it came out of a shooter.
The two stars go for the feel of the restaurant and the service, the food...
Read moreMarcus Samuelsson has opened another great restaurant in Harlem with Streetbird. Along Frederick Douglass Boulevard, there are a lot of great food options and I am very happy that I was finally able to have lunch at this place.
As you enter, the décor is very bright and lively. The large sign with “Old Fashion but good” really epitomizes the sense that this is fried chicken but it is not your old school fried chicken.
For the service, our server, Shavon, did a very solid job throughout in this quiet weekday lunch time. We arrived soon after they opened to find this large open space. We sat in one of the booths with our party of three.
For the food, I would really like to go back to try more items. As my friend say Marlon, the price to portion is not ideal because it is a little pricey but you can tell that it is all high quality food so it is worth the price.
We ordered the following items. Hot & Messy 2.0 for $13 is served with Cornbread, Fried Chicken, Bacon, Ranch, Hot Sauce Swag, Sunny Egg, Peanut Butter. Crispy Bird Sandwich for $12 is served with Crispy Chicken, Cheddar, Smokey Q, Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles, housemade Chips. The Bird’s Nest for $14.50 is served with Nuggets, Cornbread, Ying Yang Fries. Ying Yang Fries is a mix of sweet potato and garlic parmesan fries.
Looking forward to come back again for lunch or in...
