This is a fantastic place for affordable omakase! I really enjoyed all the nigiris I had, but it seemed like a very rushed experience. I had to pull up the online menu to figure out which piece of nigiri was what, as some of the pieces weren’t introduced before being plopped on the plate in front of me. Time slots are for an hour per reservation, but I had finished all my nigiri and hand rolls by around the 30 minute mark. I’ve had sushi from other omakase spots before, ranging in a plethora of prices, and Sushi W is definitely on the more affordable side. This is a good spot for anyone looking for their first omakase experience, but for a veteran sushi enthusiast probably not one you would be completely mesmerized by. I would argue that the food is very much on par with what you pay for. I got the lunch omakase for $38 with tips included, but you get taxed. I had a couple of normal nigiris that you could get anywhere (lean tuna, scorched salmon). But I was also introduced to a couple of other nigiris that were a bit more unique (branzino, and fluke for instance, were two of the choice fish of the day). The nigiris are on the smaller side with thin pieces of fish and not so generous beddings of rice. The hand rolls are also pretty skimpy. Regardless of portion sizes, fish was yummy and fresh. This is definitely a no frills experience, and I think it’s aligned with Sushi W’s mission to make omakase accessible for everyone. I can’t really complain about anything, because you do get what you pay for, and for $38 this is a fantastic omakase deal. Ambiance was fantastic albeit a little dim, decor was very beautiful and well thought out. Service was good, the waitress was very accommodating and I had my cup of water refilled a time or two throughout the meal.

Tucked on Lexington Avenue in the Upper Eastside of Manhattan is an inconspicuous restaurant. In front of it is a chalk board with a deal that’s too good to be true” SUSHI W: Basic Omakase $53… Premium Omakase $68.” With high-end sushi restaurants opening left and right in New York City, Sushi W stands out for being affordable, yet not sacrificing on quality and taste. Founded in the 2021 by the wife of a Japanese investment banker, Sushi W’s Upper Westside location exploded in popularity. Her husband quit his job and the couple dedicated their livelihoods to revolutionizing the Omakase experience in the city, and recently opened their second location. The restaurant is small, fitting around 16 diners at one time. Everyone gathers around the sushi bar for a spectacular one-hour performance, the chef’s technique right under your eye. With up to 17 courses, the pace suits the hustle-bustle of the city, but still leaves enough time in between each piece to savor the fresh ingredients and subtle flavor combinations. Sushi W is an excellent place for both first-time Omakase diners and experienced ones alike. My favorite roll was the uni (sea urchin), which literally melted in my mouth. At the end, there is an interactive course where the chef constructs a handroll in the diner’s hand. Between each course, the restaurant owner chatted with us, explaining the founding story behind the shop and the ingredients behind the sushi. Still not completely sold? The restaurant also has lunch reservations for just $38, but be sure to book on Resy in advance.

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Sushi W, and I can confidently say that it was one of the best culinary experiences I've ever had. Everything from the moment I walked in was perfect—the ambiance, the service, and most importantly, the food. The sushi at Sushi W is nothing short of heavenly. Every bite was a delightful explosion of flavors that left me craving more. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the rolls were crafted with such precision and care that you could taste the artistry in each piece. It’s clear that the chefs here are masters of their craft, delivering food that is not only delicious but also a feast for the eyes. The service was equally impressive. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm, making me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. They took the time to explain the menu, offer recommendations, and ensure that every aspect of my dining experience was flawless. It's rare to find a place where both the food and service are of such high quality, but Sushi W has truly mastered the art of hospitality. The cleanliness of the restaurant also stood out to me. The environment was spotless, and every detail was taken care of, which only added to the overall experience of dining here. I will definitely be returning to Sushi W often, and I can’t recommend it highly enough to anyone who loves sushi, quality, and a top-notch dining experience. Whether you're a sushi enthusiast or just looking for an exceptional meal, this place is a must-visit ❤️
