Food Universe Marketplace on 96th/Lex earns the one star for their sale pricing and nice folks (other than the managers) at the check-out. You can get great deals there, but here's what you need to know: Review the circular and have it on your phone before you walk-in. Sometimes the deal is not marked on shelf, sometimes the deal does not scan. If you don't have the circular, the manager (owner?) will lie about the deal and you will get charged a high price. Only buy sales items. Non-sale prices are usurious, even Whole Foods on 87th/3rd has better everyday pricing. Note the pricing on the shelf since their scan is often inaccurate and see above. . . the manager will lie to you about the price. Avoid the deli, it's not clean. Check dates on all perishables, especially meat. Produce is not great and priced high. Seafood. Just go elsewhere. Simply said, go for the weekly deals, note the pricing (and check your receipt before you leave) and avoid...

I'm glad it's within walking distance from my house and some of the prices are great deals but they really need to renovate to make more space there is barely room to move around and there's always multiple disarray of packages items that aren't on the shelves as well as many Staples items are too high to reach and no staff available slot of times to help get things the cashier's are always polite and friendly and no problems with staff the deli department is tiny the supermarket is basically bursting at the seams and crying out to be renovated for the enormous amount of traffic that comes through daily That would make the place perfect and a great go to supermarket...

Hours of operations are not correct. I arrived at 9.01pm (thinking that they close at 10pm. as it says on google, and not 9pm which is when they actually close) with the prospect of buying one cottage cheese. The man at the door turned me away even though I explained the situation to him and there were still other customers in the store. Besides this, the store is very dirty, the floors all have water damage, the floor is leaking and the general state of the store is pretty bad.
