Sweet Cake — Restaurant in New York

Sweet Cake has been on my radar since its opening, and now I regret not trying this spot earlier.

＊ Sesame Earl Grey Chiffon Cake The sesame flavor really stood out, while you can still taste the earl grey glaze on top throughout every bite. Even though the pricing is aggressive comparing to other bakeries, the slice was so huge that we were already stuffed after eating this cake.

＊ Mixed Fruit Sparkling, Orange and Pineapple Smoothie Don’t sleep on their drinks! We were amazed by the refreshing and natural sweetness of fruits. The smoothie had a great balance of orange and pineapple juice. I was sure that they used real fruits because I could drink orange seeds and peels lol. Remember to ask for less sugar!

＊ Strawberry Yakult Cheesecake The cake looked cute and aesthetic. The outside seemed to be simply whipped cream, and the inner was blueberry cheesecake. Perhaps I’m not a fan of cheesecake, I found it quite bland and lacked excitement. The yakult flavor could be tasted in the cream layers but nearly invisible. If they charged $11.99 I wish they could put more strawberries in it.

＊ Ube Mooncake, Cheese Mooncake, Pineapple Cakes We were excited to redeem two pineapple cakes (鳳梨酥). Their owner even treated us extra free ube and cheese mooncakes! I really enjoyed the ube mooncake as it has sweet potato filling...

This is a cute Taiwanese dessert and tea place! I came by with my husband and we ordered two passionfruit green teas (mine with boba and his with lychee jelly) and they were perfect, just the right level of tartness, not too sweet and the boba had really good QQ. We ordered for dessert the lychee matcha cheesecake slice, the ube cheesecake slice and the black sesame cream puff with boba on top. All of the desserts were not too sweet (which is good), but I do think this place does the cream puffs better than the cakes - the black sesame cream puff had great texture and flavor, and the boba was a great addition. After eating the cream puff, we both felt the cheesecake slices were a bit too delicate/light in flavor but the texture was right and it’s definitely the style of an Asian cheesecake (different than western style cheesecake). It didn’t seem that the lychee or green tea/matcha flavor came out at all for the cheesecake and was barely detectable. I would give the feedback to increase the flavor of both in that slice. I cannot express enough how grateful I am to Sweet Cake for making my wife’s birthday so special, even though I’m currently not in the US. From start to finish, their service was absolutely exceptional!
