Read moreI was in the Manhattan with my kids 21, 14, 14yrs and wanted to eat some good authentic Mexican food, saw this place Google Maps. I have to say we where all disappointed with the food☹️ the Host was pleasant, and the service was good. Let's start with the guacamole was very bland, I would not even call it Guacamole it's just smashed Avocado, it was ripe though. One of the kids ordered a chicken Quesadilla, first thing it was a open face, small, chicken was tasty but dry, difficult to eat, it was not what you normally think you will get when you order a quesadilla. This brings me to the menu, it's a bit too simple, I would appreciate a short description of the dishes available, especially if you're not familiar with the dishes and how they're made. The chips where made in house which would have been nice if they weren't overcooked. The Tacos, I also believe were made fresh in house they tasted good, I did like both Fish Tacos, they where fresh, a nice kick of spiciness, I like spicy food but if you don't you may not like it. Veggie Taco was great also little spicy. The Al pastor Taco, usually my favorite, but here it was a bit dry, and the thin slices of pineapple look pretty on the top of the Taco but I could barely taste it. I would recommend small chunks of pineapple instead so you can taste the burst of juice from it when you take a bite. It should be spicy and sweet at the same time. As for the ambiance, look of the place very nice, maybe better for drinks with friends and a Bit to eat instead of family dining. Hot water was served to drink only got ice after asking twice, no Air Conditioning, the tables for 4 people were way to small, to low to the floor, seats with no back on them, very uncomfortable. Also I found something very annoying about how our table was served our food. Individuals orders were combined on plates, we had to figure out who's food was who's, thank goodness that I was eating with my family and not someone that I don't want to share germs with. The truth is I just feel it's lazy of them not to give each individual what they ordered. For these prices I expect more. From this experience I wouldn't come back here with family but drinks with close friends it maybe ok, I'm not sure because I haven't done that yet. It was so hot inside with out AC or even cold water, it did remind me of my trip to Tijuana, this day I got the good and the bad parts of some of the experience of eating there. This place has potential, hope they take some of my suggestions to...
Read moreCouple things: the two hosts were very rude. I showed up around 630-7 PM with a party of 2. The restaurant was relatively full, and busy for sure. There were 2 tables in front that could accomodate a party of 2, one was stuck in corner with very little space to move - the other, was a little bigger and better location. The host, a woman with black hair, told me to take the one buried in the corner. When I asked if I could have the other one, she replied, "it's only for bigger parties". I said OK, and moved to the other table.
However, after sitting, I noticed several other parties of 2 sitting at the exact same table size. So I went to the host stand and asked the host, this time, a woman with died hair why we couldn't sit there. She had a different answer, saying "we have a reservation". When I told her what the other host said, she was very rude and told me she couldn't sit us there. Ok fine. I went back to the table and kept quiet. Very strange for a restaurant to "hold tables" for a restaurant that prides itself on its quick turnover - only for another party of 2 to come 10 minutes later and sit there.
I have been coming to Tacombi since 2014 when the first one opened on 24th st. I was friendly with managers over the years and staff. This was the first time I had a negative experience. In addition, the food has suffered. They have changed the once amazing Shrimp Tacos and Chicken Tacos to new recipes that don't hold a candle to the previous ones.
