After a long and exhausting week, a few coworkers and I decided to decompress with some drinks on Friday night. Our favorite Mexican spot was packed with a 30 minute wait, and while we briefly considered Applebee’s, we ended up a Haitian-owned bar and grill we passed along the way. A few drinks, some laughs, and good conversation later, we wrapped up with a solid appetite.
As we walked down Flatbush, I thought about hitting a shawarma spot near Bergen Street, but right next to it we stumbled upon Tacos Del Barrio, which instantly gave off a warm and inviting vibe.
One of the front staff members, Aiden, greeted us and suggested the al pastor taco with pineapple, calling it the best on the menu. He wasn’t lying, it was so good. My coworkers got the fried shrimp and chicken tacos, and those were just as impressive. Everything was flavorful and hit the spot.
While enjoying our meal, I somehow misplaced my work backpack. After searching everywhere and coming up empty, I assumed it had been stolen, especially with the open door layout. Most of my important items were luckily in my pockets, but it still would’ve been a major hassle to replace everything else I had work related that was inside it.
Before leaving, I asked Aiden if he could check the security footage, gave him my number, and headed out with my crew to a Club. Not long after, I got a text from Aiden letting me know he had found my bag, left hooked onto the side of a outdoor chair.
When I called the shop, someone else etold me they were closing in 20 minutes, but that Aiden was outside cleaning up and had made sure to notify the staff he would wait for me. So I rushed back, and another staff member handed me the backpack with everything still inside and untouched.
That kind of integrity and follow through is rare. The food was excellent, but it was the people who made the night unforgettable. Huge thanks to Aiden and the whole crew at Tacos Del Barrio for going above and beyond. I will definitely be...
Read moreI was excited to try out food from here especially that I love tacos and Mexican food. I decided to bring my family with me. The place is nice and bright and clean. What really stands out here for me aside from the delicious food is the owner. He was at the register taking orders. He such a polite and humble young man, very professional. You can really tell he is passionate about what he does.
I was able to try the Elote (corn ribs) and the shrimp taco. The corn ribs were delicious. It has just the right amount of seasoning and cheese on top. The shrimp taco tasted delicious. The shrimps were a descent size, nicely breaded. I like how you have the option of choosing corn or flour tortilla.
We ordered Carne Asada Nachos, Chicken with Cheese Quesadilla, Shrimp Quesadilla, Birria Tacos. FYI if you order three Birria Tacos you get a free consome. The Carne Asada Nachos were filling. The Carne Asada is flavorful and tender. The guacamole on the nachos was really good. The nachos was packed with flavor. The chicken quesadilla was delicious. The meat was full off flavor. Birria tacos was good. It has its unique flavor a little more on the sweet side than what I'm used to, but still a solid taco. The shrimp quesadilla is delicious.
Overall my favorite had to be the Corn Ribs, Carne Asada Nachos and the shrimp. The Salsa Roja and Avocado Sauce are both delicious. My only suggestion is to double up on the tortilla since they break easily with all the protein and sauce on it. I will definitely be coming back to try the rest of the items on the menu. Wishing the owner Aiden...
Read moreHow did this place get such high ratings? Came here on a Tuesday night, store is full but not packed, and waiting 30 minutes for TWO TACOS. I'm not exaggerating. I made my order at 9 pm and did not get it until 9:31. The man at the front, not the cashier, was the sassiest person I've ever met and had the audacity to act like I was crazy for wondering why my order took so long. Mind you, I ordered fried shrimp and carne asada. If either protein options were out I would've been happy to swap it. They were generous with the sauce but none of them were spicy.
EDIT: Changing my review from 2 to 4 (post comment from business). My friends and I were in the area and I wanted to give this place another try. Funny enough, they did tell us this time that the wait would be 20 minutes - and it was exactly 20! The tacos tasted better this time (order stay in instead of to go). My friend really enjoyed her birria taco and chips & guac. They had the tres leches stocked as well and that was good. The only thing is we tried figuring out what took them so long and all of us were confused why they would stop to make more tres leches instead of making more tacos to fulfill...
