Brooklyn Public Library - Pacific Branch — Attraction in New York

Update (March 2nd, 2022): The library is back open today and I went in, got my holds, and had a good experience. I would still have liked better communication throughout this string of closures, such as on the library site, signage with more details on the front doors, and emails to folks that had books on hold. That said, I appreciate the manager, staff, and all they're doing to get the Pacific Branch library up and running again.

Prior review (March 1st, 2022): The library closes frequently without any notice, is frequently not open during it's full stated hours on the library site, and posts poor signage when it does close unexpectedly.

I've had books on hold here for weeks and been unable to access any of them. This has been a problem for a few years, but it's gotten worse lately.

Everyday for the last 10 days or so I've tried to check the site, and finally it showed as 'open' today. I went, and it was still closed because of 'insufficient heat'. I have probably come by during normal hours at least 10 times and the facility has been closed.

I'd recommend letting library visitors know the date it's expected to be fully operational and proactively transferring my holds to a different location so I can pick them up. I'd also recommend posting accurate open dates/times on the library site, and on google maps.

I want to post a 5-star review since this is my local library, however, my honest take is to try to use another branch, like Central, or to avoid the Brooklyn library altogether due to...

I visited here for an internet work space, and this place did the trick. The signal was good, sign into the wireless network was easy, so overall it served that purpose. I also wanted to check out this old, uniquely designed building. it is a small space with an almost circular floor plan. So it's a bit interesting and cool. Don't expect to see much from the upstairs windows, many of them have been boarded up with gaskets for wind tubes for ventilation. The circular architecture is unique but this place is a working space so, there's not much done to highlight it. There are community use rooms in the basement, that you won't see entering the main level, I assume they are able to be reserved, which, if so, is convenient and useful. There are only certain tables with plug ins, if you need to charge a laptop or device, so be mindful if crowded you may not have a table with them. The library also has it's own computers the public can use and there is also a separate library section for young kids. I didn't need the librarians, but they did seem helpful and appreciated by the people who needed them. Overall the space is useful and convenient... definitely a bit small, so get there with plenty time to...

This is a phenomenal library with outstanding management! The clerical supervisor knows what he’s doing and is always willing to lend a hand to help others. I’m always impressed by the way he goes above and beyond to resolve issues, address patron concerns, and make sure things are running smoothly. The librarians also do a great job! They are always suggesting great books for me to read based on my preferences. My kids love coming here because the children’s room is always kept in tip-top shape! The extensive list of programs offered are designed to engage the community. Let’s continue to support our local libraries! We are lucky to have them!
