The Taqueria is our go-to restaurant and we have the pleasure of dining here at least once or twice a week. The food is always fresh and prepared with love. Some of our favorites on the menu are: the guacamole with chips, made to order at the table, the shrimp Vera Cruz, any of the Burritos, any of the steak dishes. We are also always happy with the specials. Also, everyone loves the Rodeo Burger. And…if you are the mood for a cocktail, you will not be disappointed. Try the Aqua Frescas for non-alcoholic beverages. This is a family-owned restaurant and they are the nicest people you’ll meet. We had my big 80’s Birthday Fiesta at the Taqueria on March 2nd. It was the perfect spot for 28 guests. The food was, as always, amazing. They went all-out with the decorations and treated everyone like family. Everything is done with passion and love.

Ok, I’ve left a good review of Taqueria Kermes before and I’m leaving one again. In normal times, the food is excellent and so is the service. Everyone is always so helpful and friendly. And now during COVID19, Taqueria Kermes continues to be excellent, safe and clean. Every employee is wearing a mask. The restaurant is spotlessly clean. The food is as good as ever and it’s so clear that the employees really care about safety. The back porch is lovely. The tables out front are lovely. The food is amazing. Take out is super easy and fast. It’s hard to own a business, especially a restaurant, during these crazy times. If you have money to spend on take out, this is the best place on fresh pond road to spend it. Definitely recommend the Hawaiian Quesadilla and the tostadas. Nice mezcal selection too!

Every bone in my body wants to gatekeep this place; but when I’m eating in this incredible restaurant it feels illegal that this place isn’t packed. The service is warm and friendly, you feel like family in a sense. The decorations are bright and in each detail a different region and expression of Mexico is ever present. They have a sunny backyard and sunlit seating room. The entry door/ store front ( which is brown and a bit drab) is deceiving in the freshness of the food and atmosphere, as once inside drinks such as the frozen cucumber margarita and literally EVERY TACO makes you want to jump up and confess your love for all things Mexico. Family owned, ran and loved … one of my favorite hidden gems on fresh pond.

I ordered 4 burritos and French fries with every single one of them. I asked the lady that took my order if any of the items contain meat because we don’t eat meat and the lady said no. After my family and I ate some of the order (out of 4 we all took A half of burrito because they were too oily and the fries were too dark) our stomach felt funny. Two hours later the kids were throwing up and me and my husband had diarrhea. Went to the dr to find out we had food poison! So I called next day explain the situation and the person I spoke to on the phone said the manager will give you a call back, waited a day and called back. Today the manager calls me, I explain the whole situation and her response is I can assure you it wasn’t my food ( I clearly told her the only other food we ate that day was bread with butter which we eat every morning her food was lunch and you can imagine after that we couldn’t eat anything else) so I asked, do you use the same oil to fried any meat or other food, to what she responded yes we use the same oil to fry shrimp and fish. what?????? Wonder why their fries look the way they did! I said to her well that’s exactly what got me and my family sick we don’t eat shrimp or fish, she said well you didn’t tell me you had allergies, I said we don’t have allergies. Are you serious you mean to tell me that using the same oil is not wrong?? Thank God my family is not allergic to seafood. I can’t imagine what would had happen if we ate most of the order. Just disgusting! We paid a total of 58 dollars for 4 burritos and French fries and she didn’t even agree to refund half of it (which I...

This quiet restaurant has decor that is typical of a Mexican restaurant. I ordered a strawberry margarita on two separate visits over here. The first time that I ordered it, the drink was a disappointment. On my second visit, I was hesitant to order a strawberry margarita again because of my experience the first time. The waitress informed me that they had recently changed their recipe and believed that I would like it. I decided to go with her recommendation and I'm glad I did because the new formula is wonderful! My boyfriend and I had an array of tacos with our meals. Our favorites included the Surf and Turf and the Fajita Taco. The fajita taco was so good and I'll definitely be going back very soon for another one. We liked our tacos so much that we ordered another two during our meal. The turn around time for our second order of tacos was very fast and they were just as tasty as the first batch. We also ordered flan for dessert and it had that Goldilocks amount of sweetness where it wasn't too sweet, but wasn't not sweet enough. We loved our food and the quiet environment. The waitress was also very attentive during our meal and attended to us frequently, but not to the point where it would have become annoying. Great food and cute little Mexican restaurant! We'll...

Not good. Clearly the enthused reviews are by people who didn't grow up with actual Mexican food, Cali-Mex, or Tex-Mex. There's something weird going on with the meat here. Tastes... musty.

This place is just frustrating. Very far from authentic on any kind of "Mex" cuisine, which is fine -- but what they are doing is grossly over-seasoned, and often laden often with poor quality, onion-y guac sauce and other garnishes that are just garbage.

I cannot understand the positive reviews at all, I've tried Kermes maybe 5 times in as many years and I haven't once been satisfied with a meal from this place.

Also, it's expensive. Head and shoulders pricier than Las Margaritas or 4 Caminos down the street, both of which are at least comparable quality (and a lot more authentic). Kermes is the kind of place that charges for tortillas or extra salsa, etc.. And they royally mess up orders as well, without fail. Nice enough people though, for what it's worth.

The issue seems to be that the cuisine on the menu (vaguely Tex-Mex) isn't cuisine that's native or familiar to where the proprietors and staff are from (Puebla, Mexico).

I give any sitdown restaurant in Ridgewood chance, but Kermes just isn't a...
